Calling all humans!

You can make a meaningful contribution to our collective understanding of biodiversity and conservation. Earthwise Aware (EwA | www.earthwiseaware.org) trains community members to support national research on how climate change affects the life cycles of plants, insects, and other organisms. Participation is easy, engaging, and no prior experience is required.

We currently offer several volunteer opportunities at the Middlesex Fells Reservation. We meet on Fridays at 8:30 a.m. at Long Pond in Winchester.

▫ Interested in insects?

We use easy to use mobile apps to collect valuable data on insects and their interactions with plants across the reservation.

▫ More into plants?

Volunteers monitor the phenology of native trees and other perennial species that play a key role in the life cycles of pollinators and wildlife.

▫ Fascinated by pollinators?

Help document pollinator activity by counting visits to flowering plants around the pond. Pollinators are essential to healthy ecosystems.

▫ Prefer a broader ecological view?

Connect plant and animal life cycles within the context of a changing climate to help build a more complete picture of ecosystem dynamics.

We are grateful to partner with the Department of Conservation and Recreation, which provides a setting where we can collect field data and contribute to national research databases. These efforts support conservation planning and help identify ways to improve biodiversity outcomes in urban environments.
