Environmental Health Officer 1 (range 14) hourly salary: $26.66Environmental Health Officer 2 (Range 16) hourly salary: $30.62Environmental Health Officer 3 (Range 18) hourly salary: $35.28**What You Will Be Doing:
The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Environmental Health, Food Safety and Sanitation Program is seeking an energetic and proactive environmental health professional to serve as a flexibly staffed Environmental Health Officer 1/2/3 in our Wasilla office.
This position is primarily responsible for permitting, conducting inspections, technical regulatory assistance and complaint investigation for retail food facilities, manufacturing food facilities and public facilities (pool/spa operations and body art shops). The work includes regular travel to other areas of Alaska.


Depending upon the applicant’s qualifications the position may be filled at the Environmental Health Officer (EHO) 1, EHO 2, or as an EHO 3. The EHO 1 is a developmental position that is focused on building the skills and experience necessary to perform work at the EHO 2 level. A training plan is included with the position description so that someone hired at the lower level can gain skills and qualifications to promote to the higher level, usually for an EHO 1 in the first year.


The Environmental Health Officer 2 is a journey-level position in which staff independently perform routine duties while continuing to grow their knowledge and practice. The training plan includes a path for an EHO 2 to gain the skills and qualifications required to promote to an EHO 3.


The Environmental Health
Officer 3 is a professional-level position for staff who have duties as an office lead or in completing specialized inspection types.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position is located in the Wasilla DEC office. The work environment is friendly, professional, and collaborative.
The Food
Safety and Sanitation Program maintains a positive team atmosphere with staff statewide both in-person and through group discussions on Microsoft Teams.
Our staff are now working a combination of in-person (in the office) and teleworking. This position is a combination of office/desk work and fieldwork. There are frequent opportunities to travel to other locations in the state for inspections, audits, and training.
