Program Overview and Key Responsibilities
Throughout this dynamic year, you will engage in a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on experience that will lay the groundwork for a career dedicated to environmental protection. As part of this program, you will:
Participate in eight weeks of intensive classroom training focused on the principles and practices of environmental organizing. You will learn crucial skills such as recruiting and training volunteers, developing strategic campaigns, organizing impactful events, and securing media coverage.Lead three to five diverse campaigns during the year, where you'll have the opportunity to organize on various environmental issues in multiple settings. From addressing single-use plastic pollution in one city to promoting clean energy in another, you'll gain invaluable experience in different contexts, including college campuses and local communities.Manage a grassroots canvass office during your final campaign, where you'll hire and oversee canvass staff. Together, you will educate the public, rally support, recruit members, and raise funds for prominent environmental and public interest organizations.Acquire essential skills and experiences that will allow you to launch a successful organizing career. Upon completing the program, we will assist you in connecting with job opportunities in the environmental and social change sectors, as many organizations are in need of trained organizers.Exercise discretion and independent judgment while making significant decisions throughout your campaigns.Qualifications
We seek motivated candidates for our selective training program. While no prior organizing experience is needed, we are looking for individuals who possess:
A strong passion for environmental conservation and a commitment to building a career in this field.Excellent communication skills, including writing, public speaking, and engaging effectively with individuals and groups.Demonstrated leadership experience, whether in school or community settings.A robust work ethic and a commitment to achieving goals, along with the adaptability to navigate the fast-paced nature of campaign work.A willingness to dedicate a year to immersive learning, participating in multiple campaigns with various partners and locations.Compensation and Benefits
For positions starting in August 2026, the target annual salary is $39,500, with a possible range of $39,500 to $44,450 depending on location. Our extensive benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents, paid sick time (60-80 hours/year based on location), vacation time (accruing 10 days in the first year), a commuter benefits program, and may offer needs-based student loan assistance. We also provide opportunities for short-term campaigns and advancement within the organization.
Start Date and Flexibility
We are currently hiring for the next class of Environmental Campaign Organizers to commence in August 2026. While location preferences will be considered for placements, all organizers must be geographically flexible, as they may work on campaigns across various regions in the country.
