Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Manager

Northumbria Police seeks a Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Manager to lead their BCM Programme, ensuring readiness for disruptions. The role involves developing and improving business continuity policies, conducting testing exercises, and providing expert guidance across the organization. Salary Band 10, £50,154 – £54,696 (Please note it is Northumbria Police policy to appoint at the beginning of the band)

The Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery Manager is responsible for leading and managing Northumbria Police’s Business Continuity Management (BCM) Programme, ensuring the force is prepared to respond effectively to disruption and maintain the delivery of critical policing and support services. The role oversees the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the force’s business continuity policies, plans and frameworks, helping to ensure that foreseeable events do not impact the organisation’s ability to carry out its essential functions.

Acting as the force’s subject matter expert on Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR), the post holder will provide professional advice and guidance to stakeholders across the organisation, promoting awareness, resilience and best practice. Working collaboratively with departments and service areas, they will ensure business continuity arrangements are robust, proportionate and embedded within the culture of Northumbria Police, supporting organisational readiness and effective incident response.




What you’ll do




Lead and deliver a programme of business continuity and disaster recovery testing exercises, identifying risks, capturing lessons learned and driving continuous improvement.Develop, maintain and review Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans, Business Impact Assessments and related documentation, ensuring they remain effective, compliant and fit for purpose.Identify gaps in business continuity arrangements and work with stakeholders to implement improvement plans that strengthen organisational resilience.Provide guidance and assurance to Business Continuity Champions across the force, ensuring local plans align with corporate BCDR requirements and support key projects and change initiatives.Build strong relationships with internal and external partners, sharing best practice and incorporating national guidance to enhance business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities across Northumbria Police.


What you’ll bring




Experience of developing, implementing and maintaining Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) frameworks, plans and supporting documentation.Proven ability to design, deliver and evaluate BCDR testing programmes, using lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.Strong knowledge of business continuity, emergency planning and resilience principles, supported by a relevant qualification or significant practical experience.Experience of producing reports, presenting findings and providing expert advice to senior leaders and executive-level stakeholders.Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge and advise on risk-related matters.Highly organised and proactive, with the ability to manage competing priorities, respond effectively under pressure and work independently or as part of a team.Candidates who do not already hold a recognised Business Continuity Planning (BCP) qualification will be required to undertake and successfully achieve the relevant qualification within their 6-month probationary period, this would be supported in your new role.

Terms of appointment




This is a permanent role subject to a six-month probationary period.
