About the Role
As a Carbon Policy Analyst, you will play a crucial role in analyzing compliance carbon pricing policies across North America with a focus on California. You will evaluate the economic impact of various carbon pricing mechanisms, monitor market trends and assess regulatory changes. You will also collaborate with internal teams, external stakeholders and government bodies to provide insights related to carbon pricing policy. You will regularly attend internal and external carbon conferences and key government meetings where regulatory updates will be discussed. You will report into the Journalism Associate Director and the Director of Carbon Analytics. This is a remote role.

Responsibilities

Monitor and track legislative developments and regulatory changes affecting carbon pricing.

Conduct in‑depth research and analysis of carbon pricing policies, including cap‑and‑trade systems, low‑carbon fuel standards and renewable portfolio standards.

Evaluate the economic implications of different pricing mechanisms on businesses, industries and consumers.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to assess the impact of policy developments on carbon market pricing, renewable energy projects and jurisdictional emissions‑reduction goals.

Prepare reports, presentations and policy briefs to communicate findings and carbon policy developments.

Engage with policymakers, industry associations and advocacy groups to advocate for effective carbon pricing strategies.

Generate breaking and feature news alerts on carbon policy initiatives and regulatory developments.

Research and report on new developments in North American carbon policies and programs.

Contribute to social media content, blog postings, industry analysis and publish OPIS reports.

Network and develop sources in the carbon industry, including legislative and regulatory policymakers.

Qualifications

At least 3 years' experience in the policy analysis or environmental sectors.

Experience analyzing and interpreting government and jurisdictional regulations.

Knowledge of North American climate policies, carbon markets and renewables (preferred).

Experience synthesizing complex regulatory developments into accurate and easily understood content.

Bachelor's degree in environmental policy, economics or a related field (preferred).
