The role involves driving sales of solar PV inverters and energy storage systems, managing client relationships, and supporting project execution. Candidates should have 8+ years of experience in renewable energy sales, particularly with EPCs and utilities. This position is based in Johannesburg, South Africa, and is not remote.

Overview

A global clean energy technology organisation operating within the renewable power conversion and energy storage sector is seeking an experienced Account Manager to support the growth of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects across Southern Africa.



The organisation develops advanced inverter technologies, battery energy storage solutions, and integrated power systems that enable large-scale renewable energy deployment and grid stability. The role is focused on driving strategic sales, building long-term partnerships within the energy ecosystem, and supporting the acceleration of the regional energy transition.

This is a commercially driven, client-facing position operating at the intersection of technical engineering solutions and large infrastructure project delivery.



Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Sales Execution

Drive sales of utility-scale renewable energy solutions including solar PV inverters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and medium-voltage power station solutions.Develop and execute regional sales strategies targeting independent power producers (IPPs), EPC contractors, developers, and utilities.Manage the full sales lifecycle from lead generation through technical proposal development to contract negotiation and close.Identify strategic accounts and expand market penetration within the utility-scale renewable energy sector.Client & Stakeholder Management

Build strong relationships with EPC contractors, project developers, utilities, financiers, and government stakeholders.Coordinate cross-functional internal teams (technical, engineering, commercial, legal) to deliver tailored commercial and technical solutions.Support negotiations related to supply agreements, project contracts, and long-term partnerships.Market Intelligence & Strategy

Monitor regional energy policies, procurement frameworks, and competitive landscape.Provide market feedback to technical and product teams to ensure alignment with local grid requirements and project needs.Support strategic positioning within emerging renewable markets across Southern Africa.Sales Performance & Forecasting

Maintain accurate pipeline tracking and revenue forecasting.Deliver regular reporting against sales targets and strategic objectives.Represent the organisation at industry conferences, trade shows, and stakeholder engagements.Project Support & Compliance

Ensure projects comply with local grid codes, regulatory frameworks, and renewable procurement programmes.Collaborate with engineering and logistics teams to ensure successful project execution and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

Essential

Minimum 8+ years' experience in renewable energy or power infrastructure sales, preferably within solar PV and/or energy storage.Demonstrated success in B2B sales targeting EPCs, utilities, or IPPs within large infrastructure or energy markets.Strong understanding of utility-scale renewable energy project structures and procurement processes.Experience negotiating and closing large commercial deals.Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Renewable Energy, or related field.

Preferred

Existing network across the Southern African renewable energy ecosystem.Technical understanding of solar plant design, grid integration, or battery storage technologies.Experience supporting projects through delivery stages.Ability to travel frequently within the region.Multilingual capability advantageous.
