The Impact You’ll Make in this Role As an Investment Director at 3M Ventures, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. You will make an impact by leading 3M venture investments aligned with areas of strategic interest across 3M’s broad set of businesses, managing the entire investment process, developing investment themes, building and sourcing a pipeline of investment opportunities, conducting due diligence and valuation analysis, pitching deals to the Ventures Investment Committee, closing deals, and managing portfolio companies and board observer roles after investment; leveraging investment experience to coach and lead a team of investment managers; working closely with business and technical leaders to develop collaboration plans that provide value to 3M and partner companies; and developing creative, highly tailored deal structures and processes that result in optimal solutions for unique project objectives.

Your Skills and Expertise Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution. A minimum of 5 years of active Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) or Venture Capital (VC) experience. Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further include:

Experience in deep tech field. MBA, or undergraduate or higher degree in engineering or technical field. Entrepreneurial, business management, strategy, consulting, investment banking or business development experience, including strong knowledge of finance and various valuation techniques. Experience as a board member or board observer for a venture‑backed startup. Strong negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively engage directly with target company senior management. Work Location This role follows an on‑site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN or San Francisco, CA.

Travel May include up to 25% domestic and international travel based on projects.

Relocation Assistance May be authorized.

Compensation and Benefits The expected compensation range for this position is $250,253 - $305,864, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience. In addition, this position may be eligible for a range of benefits (Medical, Dental & Vision, Health Savings Accounts, Health Care & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, Disability Benefits, Life Insurance, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences and Retirement Benefits, etc.).
