Job Description
DT Global is seeking a local I-Kiribati Writer for the Wisdom of Elders Project in Tarawa, Nigeria. The role involves transcribing interviews and documenting traditional I-Kiribati knowledge related to climate and cultural practices into a book. Candidates should have strong writing skills, cultural sensitivity, and preferably knowledge of the Te Kiribati language. This position is locally engaged and not remote.

Background The Wisdom of Elders Project aims to document, preserve, and integrate traditional I-Kiribati knowledge into education and climate change initiatives. This includes knowledge passed down through generations relating to weather, the environment, the land and sea, and cultural practices.
The project supports national efforts to strengthen climate resilience and ensure that indigenous knowledge is preserved for future generations and incorporated into formal and non-formal education systems.

They will be responsible for transcribing recorded interviews, field notes, and documentation into a well-structured, accurate, and culturally appropriate book of up to 200 pages including illustrations and photographs. The content will draw on knowledge shared by I-Kiribati men and women elders through interviews and storytelling, covering topics such as changes to weather, the environment, the land and sea, and cultural practices.
The role requires strong writing skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to present traditional knowledge in formats suitable for education, publication, and archiving. An I-Kiribati person with knowledge of the Te Kiribati language and culture is preferred.
Regular progress updates will be provided to the Project Lead to ensure alignment with project objectives.
