Weather Analyst

As a Weather Analyst, you will engage in vital tasks to enhance public safety through accurate and timely weather information. Your responsibilities will include:

Integrating weather, water, and climate data alongside societal risks to generate and disseminate impact-based warnings, advisories, outlooks, and forecasts. You will ensure the accuracy, precision, and timeliness of all data.Supporting the creation, production, and delivery of interpretive services by providing tailored Impact Based Decision Support Services (IDSS), which may involve specialized notifications, remote briefings, and on-site assistance to core partners focused on public safety and property protection.Collecting, assessing, analyzing, and synthesizing comprehensive environmental data to provide forecasts for critical elements at global, synoptic, and meso-scale levels, enhancing the understanding of weather phenomena.Collaborating with colleagues to co-create solutions and optimize daily operational functions, contributing to the success of the Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs) and National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP).NOTE: Duties described are at the GS-09 level; positions at GS-05 and GS-07 are developmental leading to performance at GS-12 level.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The work is performed in a standard office environment. Rotating shift work is required, as the WFO/NCEP operates 24/7. During severe weather or rapidly changing conditions, you may experience an increased workload requiring quick dissemination of updates, leading to heightened mental focus and stress. Extended hours may be necessary during adverse weather conditions.Maintaining sharp mental focus during stressful events is critical. You may be required to monitor weather conditions actively while the public is evacuating the area.
