Job Description
The Sustainability Program Coordinator at Women in Cleantech and Sustainability in Madison, WI, is responsible for implementing initiatives to enhance energy efficiency and decarbonization. Position: SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM COORDINATOR AT THE CITY OF MADISON (MADISON, WI) OverviewThe Sustainability Program Coordinator is responsible for developing, informing, and implementing initiatives, projects, and partnerships to achieve program goals, with a focus on building energy efficiency and decarbonization, climate resilience, and strategic communications. The Coordinator will collaborate with City staff and community partners to implement the City’s 2024 Sustainability Plan, administer the Building Energy Savings Ordinance, support the Efficiency Navigator Program and other initiatives focused on advancing building energy efficiency and decarbonization, and grow the City’s resilience to poor air quality and extreme heat. Work includes developing, tracking, and reporting on milestones and measures of success; program and project design and management; engaging and coordinating City staff and external partners; communications; researching and developing strategies to enhance current and new initiatives; and data analysis and management. The Coordinator’s work products include policy analysis and development; program design, implementation, and evaluation; engagement with internal and external parties of interest; and oversight of the City’s building energy and decarbonization goals. This position will report directly to the Sustainability and Resilience Manager within the Mayor’s Office.ResponsibilitiesAdminister the Building Energy Savings Program (BESP) — Work with internal and external partners to achieve a high compliance rate with the City’s building energy benchmarking and tune-up requirements; develop, maintain, and manage program outreach to share information with building owners required to comply with the Building Energy Savings Ordinance; provide technical support to building owners and energy professionals as they work to comply with the BESP’s benchmarking and tune-up reporting requirements; coordinate with local energy utility companies to ensure data accuracy, effective communication with building owners, and compatibility of energy tracking and reporting systems; assist with program enforcement, including preparing notices of noncompliance and citations, tracking enforcement cases, and coordinating with other City agencies involved in enforcement.Support City Building Energy Management and Decarbonization — Provide energy tracking, analysis, and project management to help achieve operational savings and greenhouse gas reductions across the City’s portfolio of buildings; monitor the City’s energy use, manage the City’s energy dashboards, and coordinate with various municipal agencies to ensure data accuracy and utilization to inform decision-making; organize and facilitate an interdepartmental working group of facilities managers to share knowledge, resources, and scale up successful approaches to energy management in City facilities; manage the City’s portfolio of buildings using ENERGY CAP and the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and various utility databases; support the development and implementation of a Municipal Building Decarbonization Strategy, including project design and management, policy research and analysis, progress tracking and developing communication and educational materials.Design and Implement Residential Energy Efficiency Programs — Serve as manager and technical advisor for City initiatives and programs that support decarbonization of new and existing buildings; develop relationships with local and national organizations and businesses that provide technical assistance, funding, and services to building owners and tenants; stay current on state, federal, and utility energy efficiency programs; develop, maintain, and manage resources to share information with building owners about energy efficiency and decarbonization programs and opportunities; assist with administration of the Efficiency Navigator program and future programs that provide funding and technical assistance to help residential building owners improve building performance and reduce greenhouse gas emissions; assist with design and implementation of new programs.Build Community Resilience to Air Quality and Heat Impacts of Climate Change — Collaborate with…
