Job Description
Averro is seeking a Senior Environment Health Safety Engineer for a 6-month contract in Los Angeles, CA, with potential for extension. The role involves hands-on EHS and safety system engineering, focusing on risk identification and safety challenges in aerospace. Candidates should have a degree in engineering or related fields, with 10+ years of experience in safety and 5+ years in aerospace. Compensation is $70-75/hr with benefits.

LOCATION: Los Angeles / Hollywood, CA
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Contract – 6 month contract; strong possibility of extension

PAY: $70-75hr. W2
*Compensation varies based on skills, experience, and location where candidate lives.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
We are partnering with our most valued space exploration client and they are seeking a Sr. Process Safety Engineer! This is a hands-on embedded EHS and Safety System Engineering role focused on identifying risks early, solving real-world safety challenges, and enabling safe execution of complex hardware programs. It’s a unique blend of process safety, operational safety, and engineering integration, where your work directly supports high-risk testing and cutting-edge development.
Supporting the Space Resources Program team through design, build, commissioning, and test executionImplement safety programs and practices for the evaluation and control of potential hazards including, but not limited to, industrial hygiene concerns, fall protection, confined space, lock out/tag out, process safety management, hazard assessments, hearing conservation and noise hazards, heat stress, chemical hazards, and environmental management in support of program operationsLead early hazard identification efforts and carry hazards through evaluation, control definition, mitigation planning, verification, and closureProvide subject matter expertise in design reviews, test reviews, readiness reviews, and operational planningSupport safety and reliability assessments for both flight and non-flight hardware, with emphasis on developmental systems, exotic materials, and non-routine processesPerform a wide range of safety consultation services, including planning, managing, and reporting the results of assessmentsSupport incidents and emergencies, including spills, injuries, hazardous operations, equipment upsets, abnormal test conditions, and other emergency situationsPartner closely with the corporate EHS team to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety, health, and environmental regulations
MUST HAVE SKILLS
Degree in engineering, chemistry, environmental science, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, or a related technical field10+ years total work experience in safety, EHS, process safety, system10+ safety, reliability engineering, or operational risk management5+ years work experience in an operational aerospace environment,5+ manufacturing, chemical industry, pilot plant, prototyping, or testKnowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI, and state/local regulationsKnowledge of Process Safety Management methods and hazard control principlesExperience supporting hazard assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and implementation of corrective and preventive actionsExperience supporting incident/accident reporting practices, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action closureExperience supporting systems involving: high-temperature operations, high-power electrical systems, vacuum systems, compressed gases, hazardous chemicals, or stored energy / thermal mass hazards
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Support onboarding and indoctrination of new employees on program safety and EHS expectationsAssist in waste disposal activities including hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, universal waste, and recycling materials in coordination with EHSContribute to the injury/illness and near miss reporting process, including investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action developmentDevelop, update, and deliver safety and EHS training relevant to program operationsServe as a program focal point for safety and environmental issues and concernsEvaluate operations for continuous process improvement and implementation of preventive action measuresSupport development, review, and closure of job hazard analyses and risk assessmentsProvide subject matter expertise to engineering and production resources related to safety, process safety, and EHSProvide safety and EHS-related input for equipment, facility, and operational design changesPerform periodic audits and assessments of safety programs, work areas, and operational readiness
