Responsibilities:
• Serve as a subject matter expert and technical leader in applying climate science and interpreting climate model output for climate resilience and adaptation projects such as design guidelines/regulations, plans/policies, risk/vulnerability assessments, and infrastructure design
• Support diverse projects teams in obtaining, analyzing, interrogating, and interpreting climate data, using robust statistical and data analytic techniques.
• Lead risk tolerance conversations with varied stakeholder audiences including infrastructure owners, elected officials, community members and design professionals, by sharing projections of how climate hazards will evolve, including considerations of uncertainty, in an accessible way.
• Stay abreast of emerging science, law, policy, data products and tools relevant to climate science and climate resiliency.
• Contribute to the development of hazard models and consequence assessments by working with multiple sectoral teams (energy, water, transportation, etc.) to forecast impact thresholds at which critical assets and systems may be disrupted or damaged.
• Participate in professional organizations related to atmospheric science, meteorology, or related fields and present in such forums.
Required Skills & Required Experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Advanced degree(MS or PhD) in atmospheric science, meteorology, climate science, or related physical sciences
• 6-8+ years experience with quantitative analysis of geophysical phenomena and related datasets is required.
• Experience in statistical and probabilistic analysis of large geophysical data sets
• Collegial teammate and collaborator
• Excellent communication and writing skills, including translation of complex technical information into accessible formats for a range of stakeholders
Preferred Skills:
• Proficiency in R, Python, or MATLAB
• Familiarity with virtues and limitations of the latest global climate models
• Large dataset management and visualization capabilities
• Experience providing climate expertise for planning and engineering projects
The projected salary range for this position is $93,000-120,000 annually in our California office.
