The Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute is hiring a Research Ecologist for its Migratory Bird Center in Washington, DC. The role involves leading field research on migratory bird ecology, publishing papers, applying statistical models, securing research funding, training students, and presenting at conferences. Candidates should have relevant experience or a Ph.D. The position is full-time with a starting salary of $99,200.
Research Ecologist position at Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology InstituteA Research Ecologist position is open at the Migratory Bird Center, part of the Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute. We seek applicants with demonstrated experience:
implementing and leading field research designed to address questions on the ecology of migratory birds;
publishing lead-authored papers that use or develop quantitative and spatial methods to answer questions about wildlife population ecology;
applying statistical models to understand wildlife population ecology, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications;
obtaining extramural funding for research on wildlife ecology;
training students in wildlife ecology;
presenting talks about avian ecology at national or international conferences.
Qualifications:1 year of specialized experience (as described above) equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal ServiceORa Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
Pay grade:GS-12 (starting at $99,200)
Promotion potential:GS-15
