Job Description
Cape Fear Community College is seeking a part-time Institutional Research Technician in Wilmington, NC. The role involves supporting institutional research projects, maintaining accreditation materials, coordinating faculty training, and assisting with program reviews. Candidates should have knowledge of record-keeping, compliance regulations, and research processes in higher education. Effective communication and customer service skills are essential. The position requires the ability to perform various tasks under pressure.
Position Description
DEFINITION:
The Instructional Operations Technician supports the work of the institutional effectiveness and research team by assisting with institutional research projects, curriculum program review, QEP events and functions, and other institutional research and effectiveness initiatives.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
• Receives general supervision from the Director, Institutional Effectiveness.
Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
• Assists with institutional research and effectiveness projects, including internal data requests.
• Assists institutional effectiveness director with maintenance and organization of accreditation and compliance materials and reports.
• Coordinates and assists with faculty training for program learning outcomes and assessment.
• Assists with academic program reviews.
• Assists with compliance and accreditation documentation and event planning.
Other Important Functions:
• Assists with the timely and accurate processing of requests.
• Assists the institutional researcher with internal requests for data and information.
• Assists with strategic planning events and activities.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
• Principles and procedures of record keeping.
• Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and safety regulations.
• Recent technology, developments, current literature and sources of information related to institutional research and effectiveness.
• NCCCS curriculum procedures.
• Information technologies, including programs such as the college’s ERP, Colleague, Entrinsik Informer, MS Word and Excel and Google Suite applications.
Ability To:
• Understand and interpret pertinent State Education and Administrative codes, policies, and procedures.
• Understand research processes related to higher education institutions.
• Maintain detailed and accurate records.
• Communicate complex information professionally, succinctly, and clearly via email, phone, and in person.
• Provide excellent customer service to stakeholders within and outside of the college.
• Exemplify professional and positive demeanor.
• Perform well under pressure and seek opportunities to assist team members.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
• Making observations
• Reading and writing
• Communicating with others
• Operating assigned equipment
• Handling varied tasks simultaneously
• Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:

• Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds
• Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of:
• Making sound decisions

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Minimum Education/Training:
• Associate Degree in a related field.
Minimum Experience:
• Knowledge of academic programs of study, course scheduling, and institutional research.
Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:
• Bachelor degree in a related field.
• Demonstrated experience working with institutional research and/or academic programs.
• Knowledge of IPEDS and similar post-secondary education reporting.
