About this Role
The U.S. Green Building Council is seeking a Principal, Sustainable Finance to lead its global research and innovation efforts in sustainable finance. This role is part of the Innovation and Research Team and involves developing strategies to integrate sustainable finance concepts into USGBC’s programs and initiatives. The candidate will guide internal collaborations, generate educational content, inform market development, and build partnerships with key industry stakeholders. Driving the sustainable finance agenda at USGBC, the Principal will play a crucial role in evaluating market drivers, reporting impact, and steering thought leadership in the field.
Responsibilities
• Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for USGBC’s sustainable finance initiatives.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in sustainable finance.
• Drive product innovation and advise on the development of best-in-class products.
• Advocate for the integration of sustainable finance into broader sustainability programs.
• Conduct and present research on sustainable finance trends and market drivers.
• Build awareness and educate USGBC staff on sustainable finance.
• Build and manage strategic partnerships to advance USGBC’s mission.
• Lead outreach to external stakeholders to promote sustainable finance initiatives.
• Represent USGBC at industry events and expert forums.
Requirements
• Master’s degree in a relevant area; PhD preferred.
• 15+ years of experience in sustainable finance or related fields.
• Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to influence and lead partnerships.
• Deep knowledge of financing mechanisms related to sustainable buildings.
• Experience in strategic plan development and execution.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
• Certifications in sustainable finance or knowledge of global reporting frameworks is a plus.
