Developing and implementing initiatives under Executive Order 13423 that encompasses areas such as:Acquisition (formerly Buying Green)Chemical managementEnvironmental cleanupElectronics stewardshipEnergy managementEnvironmental complianceHigh-performance buildingsNatural resources conservationNational Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliancePollution prevention strategiesSustainability effortsTransportation managementUtilizing Environmental Management Systems (EMS) as the framework for addressing environmental impacts related to BOP operations, including energy and transportation functions.Establishing agency objectives and performance targets to align with Executive Order 13423.Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data to evaluate the effectiveness of program implementations.Providing guidance on developing a national natural resources program focused on:Management of endangered or threatened speciesWetlands preservationErosion controlHabitat developmentNative landscapingWildlife conservationAssisting in compliance with major environmental legislations including the:Clean Air Act (CAA)Clean Water Act (CWA)Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA)Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)Federal Insecticide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA)Ensuring that all environmental management practices align with the comprehensive EMS framework, including achieving second-party certifications at BOP facilities.As part of your responsibilities, maintaining the security of the institution is critical and takes precedence over all other duties.
