Climate Policy Initiative is hiring a Junior Analyst/Analyst for a full-time, 18-month fixed-term contract in Liverpool, UK. The role involves supporting financial sector transition analysis, particularly through the Net Zero Finance Tracker. Enough capital exists to transition the world into a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy. However, current investment in climate-friendly development falls far short of the need. CPI works to redirect finance from high- to low-carbon activities and helps decision makers use their resources wisely. We provide much-needed information on climate finance flows, apply in-depth analysis to guide decision makers on their efforts, and support innovation in finance to address investors’ needs and lower costs.Position SummaryThe successful candidate will work across the organisation, with a focus on CPI’s Tracking financial sector transition workstream. The candidate will primarily support method development and analysis for CPI’s Net Zero Finance Tracker (NZFT). The tool provides the most robust and transparent data on the global financial sector’s transition to net zero, informing policy direction, investment strategy, and advocacy decisions. Additionally, the candidate will support the Global Landscape of Climate Finance, the most comprehensive dataset and analysis of global climate financing available, used extensively in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Assessment Reports.In conducting analysis, the Junior Analyst will work in close cooperation with a range of international partners from the policy, finance, and corporate spheres, as well as with CPI teams throughout the world. Previous work experience with financial institutions/coalitions, transition plans and net zero frameworks, climate policy, or regulation are valuable assets.Primary Duties & Responsibilities Map and perform rigorous analysis of transition plans, net zero frameworks and disclosure regulation, as well as a review of existing data initiatives to be integrated in the dashboard.Efficiently collect and analyse varied and cross-disciplinary data to incorporate into useable and reportable formats. This will include but is not limited to investment data and transaction and impact attributes.Under the direction of senior staff, contribute to the design, management, and implementation of complex research assignments and analytical projectsEngage clients and peers throughout the research process and advise policymakers on the implications of research findingsAssist in the writing and editing of high-quality CPI products, including full reports, executive summaries, blogs, and presentationsCommunicate and collaborate with CPI staff working around the globeProduce high-quality materials on demanding deadlinesQualificationsBA or BS degree required with coursework in finance, economics, and policy.Master's degree in finance, and economics or a related, quantitatively rigorous field strongly preferredAt least two years of professional experience.Valued experience and skillsExperience analysing transition plan / net zero frameworks and disclosure regulation, and/or climate finance, and/or energy and climate marketsKnowledge of SQL, R, PythonIndependent, analytical mind with a track record of applying sound financial, political and strategic judgment to complex issuesFlexibility, professionalism, enthusiasm for…
