Job Description

The Student Conservation Association is offering an internship for a Wildlife Biologist at Fort Carson Army Base, Colorado. The intern will assist the US Fish and Wildlife Service with fieldwork related to wildlife conservation, including surveys and data management. Candidates should have a relevant BSc and a passion for outdoor work. The internship runs from April to October 2025, requiring 40 hours per week, with compensation and allowances provided.
Job Description

Position Summary

The Fort Carson Army Base (FC) Student Conservation Association (SCA) intern will assist the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) biologist with fieldwork to support the FC conservation branch. The conservation branch of FC is responsible for implementing the Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan (INRMP). This intern position will support the USFWS fish and wildlife biologist in conducting fieldwork that is required under the INRMP.

Schedule

April 1, 2025 – October 31, 2025

Key Duties and Responsibilities

o Burrowing owl occupation and clearance surveys;o Eastern Black rail call-response surveys;o Golden Eagle nest monitoring;o Prairie dog colony mapping;o Native fish inventories;o Moving and setting traps for prairie dogs on various project sites;o Avian nest box monitoring and maintenance; o Vegetation identification/sampling;o GPS surveys;o Biological samples;o Maintain wildlife cameras and acoustic monitoring equipment;o Data management;

Required Qualifications

Possess a BSc. related to Biology, Zoology or Wildlife Management & Conservation.

This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Living Accommodations

Intern will be responsible for their own housing.

Compensation

Living Allowance – $450 Week;Commuting Allowance – $25 Week;Duty Related Travel and Other Reimbursable Expenses – $3,000;Roundtrip Travel Allowance – $1,000;Housing Allowance – $1,000 per month;

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
