About the position
The Hydrogeologist - Hydrologist 2 position at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) involves performing hydrologic evaluations at permitted closed landfills. The incumbent will be responsible for reviewing MPCA records to determine the closure or postclosure status of various sites, assessing the associated risks to human health and the environment, and coordinating the review and preparation of closure documents in collaboration with staff engineers. This role is critical in ensuring regulatory oversight of closed landfills and in approving facilities for exiting the postclosure care period. The position is full-time and offers the flexibility of telework, with the expectation of working Monday through Friday during day shifts. Candidates for this role must possess a Bachelor's degree in Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology, Water Resources Management, Soil Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a closely-related environmental field, along with two completed courses in Hydrology/Hydrogeology. The position also requires basic computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word, and exposure to Excel and PowerPoint, as well as the ability to understand the environmental regulatory process and procedures. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, effective communication abilities, and the capacity to establish and maintain good working relationships with both internal and external partners. The role may involve physical demands such as conducting landfill inspections, which may require walking on slopes and uneven ground, as well as occasionally lifting and carrying equipment.
