The salary range, including the alternate range criteria, for this classification is $6,562 - $10,476 a month, with a potential yearly increase of 5%, up to the maximum of the classification. You will start at the minimum of this range unless you meet the criteria for higher placement. Desirable Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess ability and educational background focused on troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, calibration, and commissioning of related equipment with electrical experience related to the power plants. Candidates must have knowledge and experience with reading blueprints, performing instrumentation testing and calibration, as well as the ability to troubleshoot electrical/mechanical issues. Experience with protective relay calibration and strong organizational skills and computer literacy are highly desirable.

Position Description
The California State Water Project (SWP), a water storage and delivery system of reservoirs, aqueducts, power plants and pumping plants that includes 36 storage facilities, 21 pumping plants, five hydroelectric power plants, four pumping-generating plants, and approximately 705 miles of canals, tunnels, and pipelines, is seeking an exceptionally talented and experienced technician to apply and further develop their electronic and electrical troubleshooting skills.
The Hydroelectric Plant (HEP) Technician I, under close supervision, performs routine and basic tasks on control, communication, electrical and mechanical equipment in connection with the operation and maintenance of State Water Project generating/pumping plants, switchyards, water conveyance, and facilities.
Additional Information
This is the entry level to the HEP Technician series. Training will be provided and is encouraged to qualify candidate to advance to the next level of HEP Technician series.
In addition to submitting an application package, you must also take the corresponding Hydroelectric Plant Technician I Exam. You are not required to take the exam at this time. However, eligibility must be established by passing the exam prior to hiring date.

Requirements for Admittance to the Exam:
Completion of an approved two-year (60 semester or equivalent quarter units) technical curriculum in electrical, electronic, mechanical, or computer-science technology at the community college level, or equivalent. (Electrical, electronic, mechanical, or computer-science work experience in an electrical utility or equivalent industrial or military facility, may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one year of experience being equivalent to 15 semester units.)
