Job Description
The Department of Water Resources in California is seeking a Senior Hydroelectric Plant Operator to lead and direct HEP Operators and apprentices, coordinating with engineering and maintenance personnel for efficient field operations. This permanent, full-time position is based in Butte County, offering a salary range of $8,935 to $11,521. Applicants must have a valid California driver’s license and will undergo substance abuse testing. The application deadline is December 12, 2024. Exercises lead responsibility by directing HEP Operators and apprentices. Coordinates with the POC and Field Division Engineering and Maintenance personnel for the overall operation in the Field Division.

Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Knowledge and ability to schedule hydroelectric generating and pumping equipment, and water releases. Calculate power and water flows as necessary to complete assigned schedules. Ability to operate hydroelectric generators and pumps and associated auxiliary equipment, reservoirs, and remote sites either directly or by use of remote control systems. Direct, perform and ensure proper execution of high voltage switching. Knowledge of functional characteristics of generating and pumping units and auxiliary machinery, busses, switches, control circuits, valves, checks, reservoirs, spillways, metering and other water control devices; fundamentals of electricity, hydraulics and hydrology; principles of effective supervision. Strong communication and organizational skills; analyze situations accurately and take effective action; write reports.
