About the position
VHB's Site Investigation & Remediation team is seeking an Environmental Scientist/Geologist to join our Watertown, Massachusetts office. This position involves a combination of fieldwork and office tasks, where you will collect and manage data related to soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, indoor air, and soil gas. You will conduct site investigations, including ASTM Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, while leveraging technology to support data management and visualization. Additionally, you will conduct and document research at state and municipal agencies, perform Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) inspections, and prepare SPCC plans. Field support will include construction observations and documentation of remediation projects, as well as writing technical reports, correspondence, notes, and memoranda. The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to work in both office and field settings, as this position requires traveling within Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and nearby states to collect data. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential, along with a motivated attitude and the ability to problem-solve and work independently. You should be organized and detail-oriented, with a working knowledge of MassDEP Massachusetts Contingency Plan regulations and guidance, and NHDES Regulations. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is required, and experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro and EQuIS or other laboratory data management software is a plus.
Responsibilities
• Collect field data and manage/interpret data (soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, indoor air, soil gas).

Requirements
• Bachelor of Science in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science/Geoscience, or Environmental Engineering (Master's preferred).

• 1-3 years of professional environmental/remediation consulting experience.

• Valid driver's license required.
,
• Individuals holding active OSHA 10-Hour Construction and 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training certificates preferred.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience with SPCC and SWPPP inspections.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.

• Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro and EQuIS or other laboratory data management software.
