Tetra Tech is hiring a full-time Environmental Scientist in Pearl City, HI, for a temporary position supporting the Hawaii Department of Health. Responsibilities include managing projects, conducting field audits, sampling, and preparing technical reports. Candidates need a Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences and at least 3 years of relevant experience in Hawaii. The role involves both office and fieldwork, requiring travel to various sites.
The OpportunityTetra Tech is looking for a full-time Environmental Scientist for our Honolulu, HI operations to work at our client site in Pearl City.Position SummaryThis is at least a 1-year temporary, internal dedicated position to provide support to the Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) Hazard Evaluation and Emergency Response (HEER) Office. The term of this position may be extended.Job Responsibilities Managing projects of varying size and complexityField audits and inspections for various sites, including evaluating whether site activities are in compliance with EHMPs or Construction EHMPs on file with the HEER OfficeOrganizing and reviewing data.Preparing and conducting technical reviews of reports.Coordinating/Planning field investigations of contaminated sitesPlanning and performing multi-media sampling, including soil (multi-increment (MI)) sampling, groundwater and surface water sampling, and soil gas sampling on sites with potentially hazardous substances.Essential Job Functions (Required)A minimum of 3 years of environmental consulting experience in Hawaii is required for this position, including writing and reviewing submittals to the DOH HEER OfficeOverall familiarity with the HEER Office program - TGM, SAPs, EHMPs, C-EHMPs, iHEER, site inspections for compliance, etc.Demonstrated experience conducting site investigations, and practical field experience performing multi-media sampling including groundwater, soil and soil gas.Managing projectsInteracting with clientsWorking on field projects managed under state regulatory programsKnowledgeable in preparing technical reports (Sampling and Analysis Plans, Phase I and II ESAs).Knowledge of state regulations is expectedAnalytical skills related to qualitative and quantitative dataStrong technical and non-technical writingHighly motivated, customer focused, and work well in a team environmentExcellent interpersonal, communication, client interaction and project management skills are requiredInformation and data analysisMulti-tasking and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and strong organizational skills.Required Qualifications Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in environmental sciences or physical sciences (e.g., geology, biology hydrology, toxicology, health physics).Years of Experience: 3 – 5 yearsProficiency with MS Office applications is required.Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver’s license and safe driving record is required.Preferred Qualifications Experience with remedial design, feasibility studies, hazardous waste site investigations, site remediation, field sampling, air quality, ecological restoration, radiological issues, and/or water resources a plusGIS data analysis and geo-statistics, and data management skills a plusOSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER a plus.Physical Requirements (Required)Conduct necessary fieldwork in a variety of environments and topography and possibly uneven terrain; predominantly developed sites, but work may include farmland/agricultural fields.Use and wear personal protective equipment.Carry field equipment (35 to 40 pounds).You must be able to drive on a regular basis.Work Environment/Environmental Factors (Required)This position involves both office and field environments.
