Position Overview


Casa Familiar is seeking a motivated and creative Environmental Justice Youth Curriculum Intern to help redesign and strengthen our Environmental Justice (EJ) youth engagement curriculum. This role is ideal for college students who are passionate about teaching, youth development, climate justice, and community empowerment.


You will work closely with the Advocacy & Engagement Officer and the Youth Services teams to modernize our curriculum so it better supports leadership development, EJ knowledge-building, and community advocacy skills for young people in San Ysidro.


This internship blends curriculum design, community education, and hands-on EJ learning, offering a meaningful opportunity to shape how local youth understand and respond to environmental injustices in their community.


What You’ll Do Curriculum Revamp & Youth Engagement



Review, update, and co-design components of Casa Familiar’s Environmental Justice and Community Development curriculum.
Integrate interactive teaching strategies, culturally relevant content, and youth-friendly learning tools.
Develop lesson plans, activities, and materials that build leadership, advocacy, and climate literacy.

Community Education & Teaching Support



Support youth workshops, trainings, and group learning sessions.
Help create accessible educational materials for youth and community audiences.
Assist in designing outreach tools that communicate EJ issues clearly and creatively.

Service-Learning & Project Support



Align the curriculum that will help guide youth service-learning projects focused on climate change, pollution, and community health.
Collaborate with staff and youth to gather relevant climate and environmental data.
Support community outreach, advocacy efforts, and public education campaigns.

Team Collaboration



Attend team meetings, trainings, and supervision sessions.
Work with staff, partners, and community members of all ages.
Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and youth-centered learning environment.

Who We’re Looking ForIdeal Candidate Qualities



Passion for teaching, youth development, and community-based learning.
Strong interest in environmental justice, climate change, and community advocacy.
Creative thinker who enjoys designing engaging educational experiences.
Friendly, clear communicator—comfortable speaking with youth and community members.
Organized, reliable, and responsive to emails and communication needs.
Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Must be able to pass Live Scan.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements



Work performed primarily in a climate-controlled office setting.
Ability to lift up to 25–50 lbs occasionally.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, and drive for organizational tasks.
Must be able to prioritize multiple projects and maintain strong attention to detail.
Prioritizes and multi-tasks work and projects requiring good memory, concentration and analytical thinking.
