Job Description

The Hawk Group is seeking an Environmental Health Safety Specialist for a full-time position in Prudhoe Bay, AK. The Rig HSE Representative will implement and enforce health, safety, and environmental programs on-site, ensuring compliance with regulations and promoting a safety culture in Arctic conditions. Responsibilities include safety oversight, environmental compliance, audits, incident reporting, and training. Candidates should have 3-7 years of HSE experience, preferably in oil and gas operations.
Position Summary

The Rig HSE Representative is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs at the rig site in Prudhoe Bay. Serving as the on‑site HSE authority, the role ensures compliance with operator standards, Alaska North Slope (ANS) environmental requirements, and federal and state regulations, while fostering a strong safety culture in a remote Arctic environment.




Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Oversight

Act as the on‑site HSE representative for drilling, workover, or completion operationsPromote a zero‑incident safety culture and support stop‑work authority for unsafe conditionsEnsure compliance with: Operator HSE policies and proceduresOSHA, BSEE, and Alaska regulatory requirementsConduct daily safety observations and field safety interactionsParticipate in and facilitate toolbox talks, JSAs, and pre‑job safety meetings


Environmental Compliance

Monitor compliance with Alaska North Slope environmental protection requirementsEnsure proper waste management, spill prevention, and secondary containmentSupport tundra travel, ice road, and surface protection compliance (as applicable)Assist with spill response readiness and environmental reporting requirements


Audits, Inspections & Monitoring

Perform routine and ad‑hoc safety inspections of: Rig equipmentWork practicesPPE complianceTrack corrective actions and verify close‑outParticipate in internal audits, inspections, and regulatory visitsSupport safety drills including emergency response and evacuation exercises


Incident Reporting & Investigation

Assist with reporting and investigation of: IncidentsNear‑missesEnvironmental releasesCollect data, statements, and field observationsSupport root cause analysis and corrective action developmentTrack safety metrics and trends for management reporting


Training & Safety Communication

Support delivery of HSE orientations and site‑specific safety briefingsReinforce Arctic‑specific safety practices including cold weather exposure, fatigue management, and wildlife awarenessCommunicate safety alerts, lessons learned, and procedural updatesMentor crews on best safety practices and regulatory expectations


Arctic & Prudhoe Bay‑Specific Responsibilities

Work safely in extreme cold, limited daylight, and remote operating conditionsEnsure cold‑weather PPE and winter safety measures are properly usedMonitor fatigue risks associated with long shifts and Arctic conditionsSupport emergency preparedness in isolated locations


Required Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or GED requiredAssociate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, or related field preferred


Experience

3–7 years of HSE experience in oil and gas operationsPrior rig or field HSE experience requiredAlaska North Slope or Arctic operating experience strongly preferred


Certifications (Required or Preferred)

OSHA 30 (or equivalent)H2S Alive or H2S AwarenessFirst Aid / CPRIncident Investigation training (preferred)Arctic or Cold Weather Operations training (preferred)
