McKinstry is seeking an Energy Master Planning Intern for summer 2025 in Denver, CO. The intern will assist in developing an Energy Master Plan for Colorado College, focusing on decarbonization solutions and sustainability initiatives. Ideal candidates are pursuing degrees in Environmental Studies or related fields, possess strong communication skills, and are detail-oriented. The internship offers hands-on experience, mentorship, and the chance to impact sustainability efforts.

The Opportunity with McKinstry
We are excited to offer summer internships for 2025 across several of our different office locations and are currently seeking an Energy Master Planning Intern to join our Engineering and Design team in Denver, CO.
The summer of 2025 presents a unique opportunity as McKinstry is working with Colorado College to develop an Energy Master Plan. The result of this project will be an implementable plan to guide Colorado College on their long-term journey to remove fossil fuels from campus. Aspects of this plan potentially include ground-source/geothermal for campus heating, renewables, electric vehicle charging, and energy efficiency, amongst others. This internship would allow you to be directly involved in the development of the EMP, giving you a real-world opportunity to put your education to use on your own campus.

You’ll be an integral part of McKinstry with hands-on experience, mentorship and a healthy dose of fun. Our program delivers depth and real experience so that you can truly evaluate potential career paths within the work we do.
What we look for in our Energy Master Planning Interns:
• Pursuing a Environmental Studies and Science, BESoc, or Geology degree or related field required.
• Availability in Summer 2025 ( .
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent at speaking in front of others and giving presentations across a diverse spectrum of audiences.
• Must be detail-oriented, well organized, and possess practiced follow-up skills.
• Must be self–motivated, able to multi ‐ task, and work independently.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required; working knowledge of SharePoint preferred.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
What are our Energy Master Planning Interns responsible for:
• Assist with research and analysis of campus decarbonization solutions.
• Communicate with internal clients and project resources (project managers and technical staff) and document discussions, outcomes, and decisions.
• Support various elements of an Energy Master Plan such as utility coordination, groundwater evaluation, and building energy system evaluation.
• Assist with the development of customized reporting tools and public facing deliverables.
• Assist in industry association and community association partnership research as needed.
