Job Description
AWD online is seeking a Climate Resilience Specialist (Early Warning Systems) to support global climate resilience initiatives. The role involves providing technical expertise, coordinating programs, and engaging with international partners to enhance early warning systems and disaster risk reduction strategies. The position requires occasional office attendance in Rugby, UK, and offers a salary of £42,600 - £50,000 pro rata. This is a full-time, fixed-term position until December 2027.

SALARY: £42,600 - £50,000 pro rata (depending on experience)
LOCATION: Hybrid working – you will be expected to attend the office in Rugby, Warwickshire, West Midlands on regular occasions

OVERVIEW
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Climate Resilience Specialist (Early Warning Systems) to support global climate resilience and disaster risk reduction programmes, with a focus on early warning systems (EWS) and early action.
As a Climate Resilience Specialist (Early Warning Systems) you will provide technical expertise, research insight and programme coordination across multi-country initiatives, strengthening climate adaptation, resilience programmes and risk-informed decision making.
Working with international teams, partners and stakeholders, the Climate Resilience Specialist (Early Warning Systems) will contribute to programme design, partnership development and sector engagement, supporting delivery of high-impact early warning systems and resilience strategies.
This role offers the opportunity to influence sector thinking, develop innovative EWS approaches and contribute to sustainable climate resilience solutions in low- and middle-income countries.

Provide Technical Expertise: Deliver specialist knowledge on early warning systems (EWS), early action and inclusive GESI approachesSupport Programme Delivery: Advise on implementation of climate resilience, climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction programmesLead Research and Analysis: Contribute to multi-hazard, wildfire and heat early warning systems research and learningCoordinate Workstreams: Manage delivery of thematic EWS workplans across multi-country programmes and partnershipsStrengthen Capacity: Provide technical guidance, training and support to country teams and partnersDevelop Strategic Partnerships: Build relationships with academic institutions, practitioners and sector stakeholdersRepresent the Organisation: Engage in global networks, events and policy forums to promote EWS and resilience best practiceProduce Technical Content: Develop reports, policy briefs and knowledge products to support learning and influenceSupport Business Development: Contribute to proposals, consultancy assignments and growth of EWS/EWEA portfoliosManage External Consultants: Oversee short-term technical specialists and consultancy deliveryREQUIREMENTS
Previous experience in climate resilience, early warning systems (EWS) or disaster risk reduction (DRR)Proven experience of working across international or multi-country programmes and partnershipsStrong knowledge of early warning systems, climate adaptation and relevant sector stakeholdersExperience with gender equity and social inclusion (GESI) in programme deliveryExcellent written and verbal communication skills with strong report writing abilityStrong analytical, research and problem-solving skillsProven ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships and professional networksExperience of programme coordination, consultancy delivery or project managementAbility and willingness to travel internationally as requiredDegree-level qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experienceAdditional language skills (e.g. Spanish, French or Portuguese) would be advantageousWHY JOIN?
