Job Description

Upwork is seeking a climate physical risk expert to support a climate risk assessment for an Oil & Gas shipping company. The role involves working with the ESG advisory team on physical risk analysis aligned with CSRD and TCFD, covering various climate scenarios. Candidates should have experience in climate risk assessments, familiarity with climate models, and strong communication skills. The project is part-time and runs from May to August.
We’re urgently looking for a climate physical risk expert and modeler to support a high-profile climate risk assessment for an Oil & Gas shipping company, as part of their upcoming CSRD reporting obligations.

You’ll work alongside our ESG advisory team to deliver the physical risk component of a broader qualitative climate risk scenario analysis, aligned with ESRS 1 and TCFD. The assessment will cover three scenarios (1.5°C, 2–3°C, and 4°C) and needs to be tailored to the company’s shipping, trading, and infrastructure operations.

What we’re looking for:

- Proven experience conducting physical climate risk assessments (ideally quant and qual, TCFD- or CSRD-aligned)

- Familiarity with climate models (e.g., RCP, SSP) and regional hazard data

- Experience working with port infrastructure, maritime assets, or global supply chains is a big plus

- Ability to translate technical findings into concise, business-relevant outputs

- Strong communication and collaboration skills—ability to work closely with a project lead and meet deadlines

Scope:

- Review exposure to chronic and acute physical risks (e.g., sea level rise, heat stress, storms)

- Align with broader scenario framework and enterprise risk categories

- Contribute written input to a client-facing report and participate in one validation session with the team

Timeline:

Project will run through May–August, with flexible part-time engagement.
