Job Description

Caltrans is hiring an Associate Transportation Planner in California, MO, for a permanent, full-time role. The planner will support climate change initiatives, implement programs from the Federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and coordinate activities across units. Responsibilities include developing climate policy, providing technical assistance, and preparing planning documents. The position requires a valid driver's license and eligibility determined by an exam score.

Job Description & Duties
Under the supervision of the Senior Transportation Planner, the Associate Transportation Planner will work on a team and at times as a team lead, supporting the Senior Climate Change Planner, as one of the points of contact for the Climate Change Program for District 7. The incumbent will assist District 7 in implementing new climate‑change programs established by the Federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and state legislation, including but not limited to the PROTECT Program and Carbon Reduction Program. Responsibilities include identifying climate‑change concepts for project development, developing, coordinating, and implementing climate‑change policy into transportation decision‑making, coordinating climate‑change activities across functional units, providing technical assistance for research and analysis of climate‑change and adaptation, identifying and delivering outreach, education, and training, and preparing planning studies and documents that identify adaptation measures for capital project delivery.


Special Requirements

Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state-owned or leased vehicle.

Eligibility and Minimum Qualifications

Eligibility for hire is determined by score on the ASSOCIATE TRANSPORTATION PLANNER exam; candidates without current eligibility may qualify if they are new to state civil service employment and meet the required examination list criteria.
