Canadian Nuclear Laboratories LTD is seeking a Waste Advisor for its Whiteshell, MB location. The role involves managing waste responsibly, providing technical assistance to waste generators, conducting inspections, and supporting waste minimization initiatives. Candidates should have a passion for sustainability and be organized team players. Key responsibilities include data management, calculations, and compliance with waste protocols. This position is not remote and requires on-site work.

What you will be doing!
Carrying out a limited number of functions in one or more technical disciplines using a basic knowledge of scientific or mathematical principles or laboratory techniques.Generating and compiling specific data; performing calculations; preparing graphs and charts; utilizing basic business computer systems and supplied programs; assisting in computer programming and systems design; and assisting in drawing and designing routine projects.Undertaking training in both general and specific procedures, e.g., equipment operation and maintenance, radiation protection, emergency response, environmental compliance, safety, and quality assurance (QA).Identifying wastes by evaluating historical data and information from generators to recognize routine and operational wastes generated across Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) activities.Creating and managing waste documents such as Waste Enquiry Forms (WEF) and Waste Information Forms (WIF), and guiding waste through the management process.Assisting waste generators in implementing local waste minimization initiatives to reduce overall waste generation and connecting them to the CNL asset management program.Sharing experiences and best practices with peers to improve waste management processes across operational and decommissioning areas.Providing technical assistance and guidance to waste generators, field supervisors, and project staff on handling specific project wastes effectively, including advising on appropriate packaging for waste receivers.Conducting regular waste housekeeping inspections to ensure compliance with waste management protocols and promptly addressing generator needs.Completing and managing requests for characterization forms to support generators in completing field verification activities.Completing and managing waste data forms, which serve as the official records for waste in the process.Serving as a point of contact for waste generators by clarifying priorities and communicating timelines for verification activities and waste collection requirements in coordination with waste characterization services and waste operations.Continuously sharing experiences and best practices with peers to support the improvement of waste management processes across all operational and decommissioning activities.Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
EducationGraduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in a field relevant to the position, or equivalent formal education. Or; Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent, and has more than 3 years pertinent experience or the equivalent in experience, typically additional education and/or training.Experience Experience analyzing technical data, including sample analysis results and historical records.Experience in writing technical documents.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong organizational skills to effectively manage the variety of waste projects with demonstrated attention to detail.Strong interpersonal skills to work as part of a team, as well as the ability to work independently to accomplish tasks with excellent communication skills, both written and oral.Working knowledge of standard software programs, including Microsoft Excel and Word.Capable of performing mathematical activities to calculate package activities as required. Have (or acquire) a sound knowledge of CNL facilities.
Security Clearance Eligibility RequiredReliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
This position is part of the Whiteshell Technical Employees Group Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the WTEG Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.Working schedule: Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week. We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day, starting at 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
