Job Description
HCT Renewable Energy LLC is seeking a Utility Solar Project Engineer II in Ohio. The role involves directing engineering activities for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects, ensuring safety, quality, and budget compliance. Responsibilities include design coordination, technical reviews, testing, and project close-out. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 5-10 years of experience, with a focus on solar and BESS projects.
SUMMARY
This position independently directs, organizes, and executes engineering activities for utility‑scale solar
photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage system (BESS), and hybrid renewable energy projects. The
Project Engineer ensures project goals are accomplished within established safety, quality, schedule,
and budget parameters while coordinating with internal departments, EPC partners, engineering firms,
utilities, and equipment suppliers. Responsibilities span design coordination, technical reviews, testing,
commissioning, and start-up activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Demonstrates strong personal commitment to environmental, health & safety performance.
· Participates in LIFE safety culture and ensures compliance with OSHA, NEC, IEEE, UL, NFPA
and all applicable codes and standards.
· Provides engineering leadership under the general supervision of the Senior Project Manager.
· Responsible for technical delivery, performance, and outcomes on assigned Solar and BESS
projects
· Assist in determining engineering staffing needs and coordinates with internal teams and
approved external engineering firms.
· Ensures thorough scope definition and effective change management.
· As assigned, Reviews and approves engineering design packages (i.e. 10%, 30%, 60%, 90%, IFC,
As-Built).
· Cross discipline engineering coordination (civil, structural, electrical, controls, and SCADA)
· Supports project development activities such as interconnection applications, permitting, PPA
technical requirements, and utility coordination.
· Leads technical evaluations of equipment such as PV modules, inverters, transformers,
switchgear, BESS components, and plant controls.
· As assigned, completes project close-out documentation (Final Record Drawings, Testing,
Commissioning & Acceptance Documentation, Environmental Restoration Closeout, Monthly
Reporting Requirements & Project Closeout Deliverables)
· Supports FAT, SAT, functional testing, commissioning, and performance testing activities. · Coordinates start-up procedures for PV, BESS, and hybrid systems including PCS, EMS, BMS, MV equipment, networking, and SCADA integration. · Verifies system protection settings, communications, and utility interconnection compliance. · Develops or reviews commissioning plans, test procedures, and energization sequencing for field teams and subcontractors. · Documents deficiencies, manages punch-list closure, and ensures operational readiness for turnover to O&M teams. · Ensures high levels of internal and external customer satisfaction through project communication and results. · Supports coordination with utilities, EPC partners, investors, OEMs, regulatory bodies, and third‑party consultants. · Ensures adherence to company procedures, guidelines, and quality standards. · Assists in updating engineering workflows and contributes to standardization across renewable project execution. · Recommends improvements in engineering tools, templates, and methodologies. · Other duties as assigned EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS · Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering required (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil preferred). · Minimum of 5–10 years of engineering experience, with at least 3 years in utility‑scale solar and/or BESS projects. · Experience supporting or leading commissioning, testing, and start‑up activities for power systems. · Working knowledge of construction practices, discipline interfaces, and EPC processes. · Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements and standards such as NEC, IEEE 1547, UL 1741/9540, IEC, and NESC. · Capable of planning, organizing, and managing small to mid‑size capital projects up to ~$15MM TIC. · Strong understanding of engineering management principles, drawings, equipment specifications, and material management. · Ability to interpret and utilize project controls data (schedule, cost, forecasts). · Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. · Computer proficiency including PVSYST, Microsoft Word, Excel, engineering tools, and standard company applications. Proficient computer skills, with good working knowledge of all standard company applications (i.e., SAP, Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use
hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is
occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to
10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this
job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to
adjust focus. Additionally, this position must make general decisions requiring judgement and perform
activities requiring sustained concentration.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working in an office, however,
some of the work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE
including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and
may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally
be required.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $122,000.00 per year
