Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Environmental Scientist for its Southwest Region, primarily based in Albuquerque, NM. The role involves field work, environmental permitting, and task management across various sectors such as electric transmission and oil & gas. Candidates should have a relevant degree and at least 4 years of experience in environmental assessments. The position requires travel (25%) and full-time availability.

Burns & McDonnell is looking for a Staff Environmental Scientist for its Southwest Region to complete field work, permit applications, and task management for a variety of market sectors, including electric transmission, oil & gas, and renewables. The Staff Environmental Scientist will work with the office’s Natural & Cultural Resources group in our Environmental Services Global Practice to perform the following duties:
• Coordinate with project teams on a variety of tasks, including completion of field surveys, environmental permitting with federal, state, and local agencies, and review of necessary project reports and materials.
• Assist with completion of field investigations that may include habitat evaluations for threatened and endangered species and/or evaluation of other potentially sensitive resources and wetland delineations..
• Compile and analyze field data to compose technical reports presenting results from field investigations and develop appropriate applications/consultations necessary for various regulatory approvals.
• Assist project manager with field-oriented tasks, project permit tracking, agency consultations.
• Ensure compliance with company safety policies.
• All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Botany, Soil Science, or a related natural science degree from an accredited program is required.
• Minimum of 4 years of related experience required completing environmental field surveys & assessments, analyzing GIS data, and preparing permitting documents. Previous consulting experience is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to clearly communicate both verbal and written technical information.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Proficient in computer software (Microsoft Office-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
• Valid driver's license required. In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy
