Description
Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Environmental Assistant Project Manager to assist the management and oversight of environmental surveys, permitting and NEPA analysis projects within our Southwest Region. This position will require knowledge of the federal, state, and local permitting requirements associated with the development and construction of new projects throughout the U.S. in market sectors such as oil and gas, electric, and renewables.
• Prepare studies, evaluations, NEPA and state documentation for environmental projects;
• Ability to work independently and demonstrate a high level of competence in the area of technical report writing related to NEPA compliance as well as other types of technical reports and regulatory (Federal, State, local) permitting documents;
• Work with project teams on a variety of tasks, including completion of field surveys, environmental permitting with federal, state and local agencies, review of necessary project reports and materials.
• Assist the Project Management team to administer request for proposal (RFP) package development, bid and selection process, and develop detailed scope of work documents for downstream contracts.
• Regular interfacing with various agencies to obtain approvals, submit permit applications and prepare responses in a timely manner.
• Regular interfacing with clients to develop relationships, build business, and expand services to new clients.
• Work within budget and schedule expectations for each project.
• Apply technical and creative solutions to natural resources permitting.
• Assist with guidance on regulations and permitting through USACE, USEPA, and various state and local regulations pertaining to the environmental permitting of new projects.
• Assist with the development of internal and external reports including, project budgeting, cost reports, project cash flow forecast, and project status reports to all stakeholders.
• Participate in internal and external project risk reviews and consult with Legal Department as required.
• Travel may be required as necessary and required by project or client commitments.
• Adhere to Burns & McDonnell’s safety programs, trainings, and policies, as well as promote and manage the Safety & Health performance of project team members and subcontractors.
• All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related degree from accredited program and 5 years of applicable experience.
• Experience in multiple market sectors is a plus with an emphasis on electric utility, renewable, and oil & gas facility markets.
• The preferred applicant will also possess knowledge of regulations and permitting requirements for wetlands, threatened and endangered species, stormwater and erosion & sediment control, cultural resources and architectural history, and the National Environmental Policy Act. Technical expertise in one or more of these fields required.
• Experience with environmental permitting in other states throughout the Southwest is also desired.
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced, demanding work environment, ability to work overtime on short notice,
• High proficiency using Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others (Owner's, Contractors, Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
