Job Description
Prado Power Ltd is seeking a Site Assessment and Distribution Planning Engineer in Abuja, Nigeria. The role involves conducting site surveys for mini-grid and C&I projects, planning distribution networks, and coordinating with engineering teams. Key responsibilities include feasibility assessments, pole mapping, customer enumeration, and using GIS tools for mapping. Candidates should have a relevant degree and 3+ years of experience, with strong technical and analytical skills. The position requires extensive fieldwork and travel.
TheSite Survey and Distribution Planning Engineerwill play a critical role in the successful implementation of mini-grid and C&I projects by conducting detailed site assessments, planning distribution networks, and ensuring accurate data collection for project execution. This role involves extensive fieldwork, technical analysis, and coordination with engineering and project teams to ensure optimal site selection and network design.
RequirementsKey Responsibilities
1. Site Surveys & Project Site Selection
Conduct comprehensivesite surveysto assess feasibility for mini-grid and C&I solar installations.
Evaluategeographical, technical, and social factors(terrain, accessibility, community demand, etc.).
Identify and document potential challenges (right-of-way issues, shading, soil conditions, etc.).
2. Pole Mapping & Distribution Network Planning
Performpole mappingto determine optimal placement of distribution infrastructure.
Designlow-voltage (LV) distribution networks, ensuring cost-efficiency and reliability.
Collaborate with engineers to createsingle-line diagrams (SLDs)andload distribution plans.
3. Building & Customer Enumeration
Conducthousehold and business surveysto estimate energy demand and customer connections.
Gather data onload profiles, consumption patterns, and willingness-to-pay.
Maintain accurate records of potential customers and commercial clients.
4. GPS Mapping & Geospatial Analysis
UseGPS devices and GIS toolsto map project sites, distribution lines, and key landmarks.
Generatedigital site layoutsfor engineering and permitting purposes.
Ensure accurate geotagging of poles, transformers, and critical infrastructure.
5. Pole Tagging & Infrastructure Documentation
Implementpole tagging and numbering systemsfor tracking and maintenance.
Documentexisting infrastructure(poles, conductors, transformers) and recommend upgrades.
6. Reporting & Coordination
Prepare detailedtechnical survey reportswith findings, recommendations, and cost estimates.
Work closely withproject managers, engineers, and construction teamsto align plans with execution.
Support permitting processes by providing necessary site data.
Qualifications & Skills
Education:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Geomatics, or related field.
Experience:3+ years insite surveys, distribution planning, or rural electrification projects(mini-grids, solar C&I, or utility distribution).
Technical Skills:
Proficiency inGIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS), GPS mapping tools, and CAD(for network design).
Knowledge ofLV distribution systems, pole configurations, and renewable energy technologies.
Familiarity withsurvey tools (drones, rangefinders) and data collection apps (Kobo Toolbox, ODK).
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication for community engagement and stakeholder coordination.
Ability to work inremote, off-grid locationswith limited amenities.
Working Conditions
Field-based rolewith 70% travel to project sites, often in rural or off-grid areas.
May involveharsh weather conditions, rugged terrain, and extended fieldwork.
