The University of York seeks a Research Associate in Air Quality Measurements within the Department of Environment and Geography. The role involves conducting research on air quality, managing data, and collaborating with colleagues. Candidates should have a relevant degree and PhD, knowledge of air quality processes, and strong communication skills. The position is based at the INTERIORS facility and is part of a supportive research community.
Department
The Department of Environment and Geography is seeking a research associate in air quality measurements. Role
This post offers the opportunity to join a world-leading team of air quality researchers at the University of York. It will be based in the globally unique INTERIORS facility, a new facility that will enable better understanding of the impact of occupant activities in buildings on indoor and outdoor air quality. The OUTBUILDING (OUTdoor Air Pollution from Emissions in BUILDINGs) project will deliver simultaneous, indoor and outdoor air pollutant concentrations associated with indoor emissions, coupled with measurements of air pollutants emitted from buildings using a mobile platform. The successful post-holder will be responsible for overseeing both sets of measurements.
The main duties are to conduct research under the supervision of senior colleagues and to contribute to the production of research, including: analysis and interpretation of research data; use of appropriate research techniques and methods; writing up of research results and dissemination through publications, conference presentations, and outreach activities. The candidate will also be expected to assist in the identification and development of potential areas of research, including supporting the development of proposals. They will also be expected to undertake appropriate organisational and administrative activities connected to the research project, including conference organisation, and the development of promotional or educational material including website maintenance and development.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively, both internally and externally, and provide guidance to other staff and students, as required.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
The successful candidate will hold an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Natural Science (or similar), and a PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry or Indoor Air Quality (or similar) or equivalent experience.
They will have a sound knowledge of air quality processes and preferably, also have relevant experience in using research equipment for air pollution measurements, including from a mobile platform.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to get their work published in high quality journals.
They will possess good time management skills and be able to manage projects effectively.
They will also be able to demonstrate the ability to collaborate with a wide range of internal and external partners.
