Ranger

The National Trust is hiring a Ranger in Worksop, UK, to champion nature conservation and maintain the countryside. Responsibilities include protecting habitats, engaging with the community, and managing property operations. Candidates should have conservation experience, strong communication skills, and a UK driving license. The role requires some weekend and evening work. Training and development opportunities are provided within a team of 9 at various properties.
As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.

You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call.

The advertised salary for this role will be in effect from 1st April.

What it’s like to work here:Reporting to one of the Area Rangers, you’ll join a team of 9 members. We invest in training and development opportunities for our people with regular training and courses offered.

The Nottinghamshire portfolio covers 4 properties Clumber Park is one the most visited pay for entry site for the National Trust with over 700,000 visitors annually. It is our largest property within the portfolio and has a fantastic mosaic of habitats across the place, that have been carved out the ducal landscape over many centuries. At the centre of the park, we have the 100ha ornamental lake with a mosaic of habitats surrounding it from the mixed woodlands to lowland heathland and parkland. This entire landscape is Grade 1 covering 1,548ha area of Clumber, while a third of this classed as a Site Of Special Scientific interest. Our other properties include The Workhouse and Infirmary and Mr Straws House and a market cross at Colston Basset, these places offer a new way for people to engage with nature away from Clumber Park which has been the focus for the team previously.

Our volunteers provide valuable time to assist us in our work and maintaining areas, from our regular daily volunteers of around 70, to corporate volunteers group who come in on a monthly basis. We also have educational groups in regularly who help with tree planting and scrub clearance projects across the portfolio.

What you’ll be doing:You’ll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you’ll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task.

You’ll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.

You’ll also be part of the duty management rota. You’ll be responsible on the day for the smooth running of the property during opening hours, acting as the main contact point for staff, volunteers, and customers in case of emergency, enquiry or complaint.
