Job Description
The International Rescue Committee is hiring a Project Officer in Peshawar, Pakistan, to implement and coordinate activities for the Enhancing Climate Resilience and Sustainable Ecosystems project. • Job Overview / Summary*
Under the direct supervision and technical guidance of the sector specialist Environmental Health & Climate Change Coordinator, the Project Officer will support the effective implementation of project activities under the Enhancing Climate Resilience and Sustainable Ecosystems project. The role focuses on community-level implementation, coordination with local stakeholders, activity monitoring, documentation, and reporting, ensuring alignment with Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) principles, donor requirements, and IRC standards.
Major Responsibilities
• Project Implementation & Coordination
• Support implementation of project activities related to Local Adaptation Plans of Action (LAPAs), climate-smart agriculture, green livelihoods, and community awareness on EbA and climate change.
• Coordinate closely with community groups, Farmer/Women Enterprise Groups (F/WEGs), youth groups, and local institutions.
• Facilitate community meetings, trainings, workshops, and consultations in line with approved workplans.
• Liaise with line government departments (Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Climate Change, Education, Local Government, Environment etc.) to support coordinated implementation.
• Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting
• Support routine monitoring of activities against agreed indicators and milestones.
• Collect, verify, and submit quality field-level data, attendance sheets, case studies, success stories, and photographs.
• Maintain accurate project records, beneficiary lists, and activity trackers in coordination with MEAL teams.
• Contribute to donor and internal progress reports by providing timely and accurate field inputs.
• Community Engagement & Inclusivity
• Ensure inclusive participation of women, youth, marginalized groups, and persons with disabilities in project activities.
• Support community feedback, accountability, and complaints response mechanisms (FCRM) at field level.
• Promote gender-responsive, conflict-sensitive, and environmentally responsible implementation practices.
• Compliance & Coordination Support
• Ensure activities comply with IRC policies, donor requirements, safeguarding standards, and environmental and social safeguards.
• Support coordination with local partners in implementation and reporting of joint activities.
• Assist the Program Manager in organizing review meetings, field visits, and coordination forums.
• Other Responsibilities
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Manager or supervisor in line with project needs.

Job Requirements
Education
• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Climate Change, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.
Work Experience
• Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience with I/NGOs in community-based development, climate resilience, livelihoods, environment, or DRR programs.
• Demonstrated experience working with government departments, community institutions, and local partners at field level.
• Prior experience in climate change adaptation, EbA, WASH, agriculture, or livelihoods programming is highly desirable.
Demonstrated Skills & Competencies
• Strong understanding of community mobilization and participatory approaches.
• Experience in field-level monitoring, documentation, and basic reporting.
• Ability to manage multiple activities, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
• Good analytical, interpersonal, and coordination skills.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and basic reporting tools.
• Ability to travel frequently to remote field locations.
Language Skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
