• *What You’ll Need to Succeed:**
• Expertise in Ecological Surveying and Impact Assessment: Well established ecological / habitat surveying and reporting skills. A desire to develop specialist skills relating to nationally scarce non-vascular plants and lichens that occur on abandoned metal mine sites.
• Proven Collaborative Working Experience: A track record of providing appropriate and practical technical support and advice to diverse project stakeholders in a highly constrained and regulated environment.
• *Your Role

An active project focused team member and developing technical specialist in a dedicated support and advice team providing ecological and biodiversity protection and enhancement advice and support to our Wales Metal Mines Programme (WMMP) projects. Contributing to pollution prevention while protecting and enhancing precious ecosystems and designated landscapes.
You will
• Provide Expert Advice: Offer specialist ecological assessment and management guidance to individual project delivery teams, with a focus on the WMMP.
• Undertake / Supervise Ecological Surveys and Assessments: Oversee the collection and application of core ecological data throughout all stages of project development and delivery.
• Support Project Managers: Act as an ecological specialist supporting WMMP Project Managers, advising on ecological and environmental management, protection, and improvement. Guide the scoping and interpretation of external consultants’ surveys and reports.
• Assist with the Implementation of Key Measures: Help integrate the Mining Remediation Authority Sustainability and Nature Recovery Plans into pollution prevention schemes, collaborating closely with sustainability and environmental management leaders.

### About The Role

You will be an integral part of the Environmental Advisory Services Team within the Sustainability Department at the Mining Remediation Authority. The team provides specialist environmental assessment and management related technical advice to project delivery and operations teams across the Mining Remediation Authority, with ring fenced resources to support the Wales Metal Mines Programme.

Undertaking baseline and targeted ecological surveys, including working with established external experts to provide comprehensive data that will be used for the ecological impact assessment of projects, consultation with regulators and other stakeholders and the design of enhancement and future management measures for abandoned metal mine sites in Wales.

Acting as Ecological Clerk of Works / site supervisor and liaising between site contractors and the client Project Manager and other stakeholders during ground investigation, operational maintenance and full scale construction works.

Contributing to the collection and interpretation of appropriate ecological and other environmental data that is required throughout all stages of project development and delivery. Leading on matters relating to non-vascular plants and lichens and associated habitat protection and enhancement where possible.

Developing the Project Ecologist role, building on the knowledge imparted by recognised external specialists who have worked on WMMP projects previously and collaborating directly with those that continue to do so. Acting as a first point of contact for WMMP Project Managers on matters relating to ecological management, protection and improvement, including advising on the scope and implications of external environmental consultants surveying and reporting.
