Job Description

The Program Coordinator at Chattahoochee Nature Center supports Camp Kingfisher's environmental education programs, focusing on camp development and oversight. This hands-on, seasonal role involves curriculum development, supervising counselors, and leading outdoor activities for campers. About the position

The Program Coordinator supports the camp program at Camp Kingfisher, focusing on Environmental Education and Specialty Camps. The Program Coordinator is very hands on and dynamic. Camp Kingfisher’s mission is to connect kids with nature and each other. Camp Kingfisher is a full-day environmental education summer camp. The Program Coordinator reports to the Camp Director. This is a seasonal position with flexibility in schedule and increased hours during the summer months. All staff at Camp Kingfisher are hired to: Lead campers as a positive, caring role model Provide campers with fun, positive outdoor learning experiences Help campers grow and learn through challenges

Responsibilities

Development of environmental education (EE) programs and curriculum for Camp KingfisherDevelop and oversee specialty camps, including Survival camp, Art in Nature camp, and Mad Science campHandle captive wildlife during large camp programsPlan weekly curriculum meetings for counselors to develop schedules and ongoing training in the area of EE including: checking counselor schedules for conflicts, content, and coordinating with camp administrative staff and CNC staffOversee and supervise the seasonal environmental education specialistAssist in development of Travel Program- adventure based camp for rising 8th and 9th gradersAssist with the training and supervision of camp counselorsAssist with the daily teaching of camp programs as neededSupport the efforts of all staff and volunteers at CNCPerform other duties as assigned by the Camp DirectorRequirements

Bachelor’s degree (a degree in outdoor education-related field or natural resources is preferred), or equivalent experience.2 – 3 years of experience in a camp or environmental education facility settingAbility to coach, mentor, guide, and lead groups of all ages in an outdoor settingAbility to work effectively in a team-oriented settingAbility to multi-task, prioritize, and manage timeStrong organizational skillsStrong verbal and written communication skillsMS Office computer skills including Excel, Publisher and WordCurrent First Aid/CPR certification, course providedWillingness to work outdoors during the summer seasonMust be able to lift 20 poundsWillingness and availability to work flexible hours in a variety of capacities (includes evening work)Valid driver’s license or state issued ID
