Job Description

WTS Energy is seeking a Laboratory Technician in Nairobi, Kenya. Responsibilities include coordinating laboratory tests, analyzing product quality, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with safety practices. Candidates should have a BSc/Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or related fields, with 3-5 years of QA experience, preferably in vegetable oil extraction. Strong computer skills and knowledge of laboratory techniques are essential. This is a full-time position.
JOB DETAILS: Job Responsibilities: • Coordinate laboratory performance testing using samples provided by commercial agencies. • Oversee the collection of samples and analyze product quality compliance before receiving and storing them. • Prepare reports, compile and maintain records on product quality status, tests, and inspections conducted. • Perform testing in accordance with the company’s Quality Control System. • Compose, review, and follow up on external communications with the laboratory service provider. • Provide recommendations on procedures, standards, and equipment to maintain product quality. • Ensure adherence to correct quality processes and provide necessary training when required. • Conduct monthly inventory of chemicals, reagents, solutions, and other laboratory supplies and equipment. • Clean, sterilize, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus. • Assist the Production Supervisor with operational activities, ensuring production requirements are met. • Ensure compliance with safe work practices and procedures. • Analyze test data and take corrective actions to prevent non-conforming products. • Assist in documentation and data control. • Ensure care and maintenance of testing equipment, including calibration. • Manage factory permits, compliance, and certification. • Manage audits and ensure general compliance with procedures and systems related to Agri-hub operations. • Collaborate with the health and safety committee to identify and implement safety recommendations. • Work closely with internal teams, including the Production team and Quality Assurance team. • Engage with external stakeholders such as local authorities and service suppliers, including the external laboratory provider. Job Qualifications & Experience: • BSc/Diploma in Analytical Chemistry, Process/Chemical Engineering, or a relevant field. • Fluent knowledge of English. • 3-5 years of experience in QA, preferably in a vegetable oil extraction plant. • Knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, and procedures. • Firefighting and HSE basic courses (preferred). • Project management experience. • Quality control and assurance expertise. Required Competencies: • Commissioning and Start-Up: Commissioning and start-up, Decommissioning. • Maintenance Operations: Mechanical Maintenance, Instrumentation Maintenance, Electrical Maintenance, Troubleshooting techniques knowledge. • HSEQ General (Generic). • Process Implementation & Improvement. • Organization Processes: Internal Standard, Site Management. • Supports and Technologies: Standard ISO, TQM and Quality system, Technical requirement and Standard. • Compliance: Local/National and International Standards and Codes, Health, Safety, Environment, Quality. • Strong computer skills are imperative. • Demonstrate accountability, a sense of ownership, resource optimization, and analytical skills.
