Job Description
Geothermal Engineering Ltd is seeking a Laboratory Technician in Redruth, UK, to support laboratory activities for lithium extraction and critical minerals. Geothermal Engineering Ltd (GEL) is focused on developing geothermal energy and lithium extraction from geothermal waters. Based at United Downs in Cornwall, GEL is at the forefront of sustainable energy and critical mineral production, supporting the transition to a low-carbon future.
Our site includes an operational lithium carbonate demonstration plant, with ongoing development toward a full-scale commercial facility.
About the Role:
We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our team at United Downs. This role will support day-to-day laboratory activities associated with critical minerals and lithium extraction processes.
The position focuses on routine sampling, testing, and accurate reporting of results to support plant operations and ongoing development work. It is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build or develop a career in laboratory work within an innovative and growing sector.
Key Responsibilities:
· Carry out routine sampling of process streams, raw materials in line with established procedures
· Perform chemical and physical tests using standard laboratory methods at all stages of the extraction process.
· Accurately record and report analytical results in a timely manner
· Maintain clear, organised and auditable laboratory records.
· Prepare samples, reagents, and equipment for testing.
· Ensure laboratory equipment is used correctly and maintained in good working order
· Follow all laboratory health, safety and environmental procedures.
· Support general laboratory housekeeping and organisation.
· Work collaboratively with the Process Technicians and other departments, contractors, and stakeholders.
· Assist with additional laboratory tasks and activities as required.
Requirements:
Essential
· Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in Chemistry or related discipline.
· Understanding of laboratory health and safety practices.
· Knowledge of chemistry and laboratory techniques.
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy in date recording.
· Good organisational and time management skills.
· Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
· Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team
· Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Willingness to contribute to a range of laboratory activities.
· A full UK driving license.
· Right to work in the UK (we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role).
Desirable
· Familiarity with common analytical techniques (e.g. titration. pH measurement, filtration).
· Knowledge of chemical processing or industrial environments (e.g. Ion exchange processes, hydrometallurgy).
· Interest in lithium extraction, geothermal energy or related fields.
· Experience with date recording tools (e.g. Excel or LIMS).
· Flexible and adaptable approach in a developing environment.
· Reliable and responsible, with a strong focus on safety.
