Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly experienced Grid Integration Head – PMO to lead grid integration strategy and delivery across complex energy programs in India. This role operates at the intersection of engineering, program management, customer interface, and digital transformation, acting as the primary bridge between technical teams, grid operators, regulators, and executive leadership.

The position is responsible for enabling seamless integration of renewable (solar, wind), BESS, PSP, and conventional generation systems with EHV transmission networks and substations (up to 765 kV). The role will also drive grid modernization, digitalization (WAMS/PMU), and advanced analytics, while supporting customer engagement across project lifecycle stages from bid (ITO), execution (OTR), to post-COD performance.

Job Description & Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Customer Interface

Serve as the primary point of contact for grid-related matters for large-scale (GW+) customers across ITO, OTR, and post-COD phasesLead grid integration strategy across solar, wind, BESS, PSP, and hybrid energy systemsInterface with utilities, grid operators, regulators, and internal leadership for alignment on grid compliance and integrationSupport commercial and bid teams in scope definition, risk assessment, and grid compliance positioningPower System Studies, Modeling & Simulation

Lead and oversee advanced power system studies, including:Load flow, short-circuit, contingency, and stability (RMS/EMT) analysisDevelop and validate grid simulation models for:Wind turbines, solar inverters, BESS, and hybrid plantsPSP/hydro and conventional generation systemsConfigure and deliver customer-facing models using:PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP, DIgSILENT PowerFactorySimulate converter, turbine, and plant-level control interactions to evaluate grid performance and complianceTransmission, Substation & Grid Modernization

Lead integration of EHV transmission systems and substations (up to 765 kV), including:Grid evacuation planning and interconnection designVoltage control, reactive power compensation, and system strength assessmentProtection coordination and reliability studiesDrive grid modernization initiatives, including:WAMS deployment and PMU integrationSynchrophasor-based analytics for oscillation detection and disturbance analysisDigital substations and SCADA/EMS integrationGrid Code Compliance & Certification

Lead grid code compliance strategy and execution for renewable, hybrid, PSP, and conventional systemsPerform country-specific grid code analysis and monitor evolving standardsTranslate grid requirements into:Plant control settings and product capability specificationsTechnical inputs for design, procurement, and commissioningSupport:Grid acceptance testing, certification, and issue resolution with grid authoritiesHVRT, LVRT, Fault ride-through (FRT) compliance and dynamic performance validationEnergy Systems Integration & Optimization

Lead ESS sizing and technology selection (LFP, NMC, Flow) and system configurationDefine integration strategies for PSP systems, including grid balancing and peak/off-peak optimizationOptimize hybrid systems (Solar + Wind + BESS + PSP) for:Grid stability, flexibility, and dispatchabilityDevelop repowering strategies, lifecycle planning, and spares philosophyTechno-Commercial & Product Integration

Conduct techno-commercial evaluations and support financial modeling (IRR, LCOE)Evaluate revenue streams:Energy arbitrage, peak shaving, ancillary servicesTranslate grid requirements into product specifications and service offeringsWork closely with:NPI, Services, and Product teams to assess grid compliance risksCommercial teams for bid-stage technical positioningDigital Integration & Advanced Analytics

Lead digitalization initiatives by:Integrating simulation outputs into PMO dashboardsLeveraging WAMS/PMU data for real-time grid monitoringApplying analytics/AI for predictive performance and grid risk managementAlign with AECOM’s Digital Integration FrameworkProcurement, Vendor & Documentation Support

Support RFP preparation, vendor evaluation, and technical bid assessmentsEvaluate OEMs for:Grid compliance capabilityControl systems and hybrid integration readinessDevelop and review technical documents including:Grid PRDs, GIDs, technical reports, and position papersProject Delivery & Continuous Improvement

Lead preparation of grid study reports, integration strategies, and executive summariesIdentify gaps in grid-related processes and drive continuous improvement initiativesSupport multi-project execution through standardized PMO methodologiesThought Leadership & Industry Engagement

Represent AECOM in forums on grid integration, wind systems, energy storage, PSP, and smart gridsContribute to IEEE/CIGRE publications, standards, and advocacy activitiesPromote innovation and knowledge sharing across global teamsTravel & Site Engagement

Travel to project sites, substations, and client locations (up to 40%)Desired Characteristics

Experience in EHV/UHV Power Transmission and Substation, Solar, BESS, wind turbine systems, converter controls, and plant-level control configurationsStrong understanding of:IBR behavior, fault ride-through (FRT), and grid support functionalitiesPower system stability standards (IEEE 421.x series)Experience in:Supporting sales/commercial teams and customer engagementsPreparing and presenting technical documentationExposure to:Digital platforms, analytics, and integrated PMO systemsStrong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple high-priority tasksAbility to work effectively in a multinational, matrix organizationQualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical / Power Systems EngineeringMinimum 15+ years of experience in:Grid integration and power system studiesRenewable (wind/solar), storage, and PSP integrationTransmission and substations (up to 765 kV)Strong expertise in:Grid simulation and modeling (PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, DIgSILENT, EMTP)Grid code compliance and plant control systemsWAMS, PMU, and advanced grid monitoring technologiesProven experience in customer-facing roles and high-value project deliveryStrong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skillsWillingness to travel up to 40%.Additional Information
