The Greenhouse Technician position at BC Forward in Acampo, CA, is a full-time contract role lasting 12 months, with a pay range of $18 to $22 per hour on a W2 basis. The target start date for this position is August 19, 2024, although this date is subject to change. The technician will work a standard schedule of 40 hours per week, from Monday to Friday, with the possibility of overtime and weekend work as needed. In this role, the technician will be responsible for maintaining and performing preventative maintenance on climate control systems, greenhouse structures, and other greenhouse equipment. They will be expected to find technical solutions and improvements in daily operations throughout the greenhouses and the facility. The technician will execute greenhouse tasks in cooperation with internal customers to support the creation of new plant varieties. Additionally, they will drive pickup trucks, cars, and forklifts safely, use power tools and field equipment for maintenance and repairs, and assist with monitoring growing conditions such as fertigation, lighting, pests, and other environmental factors. The technician will also be responsible for operational work in the greenhouses and hardening houses to ensure the successful growth of healthy plants. They will utilize modern computer systems for irrigation, climate control, and general operations, and carry out basic steps of standard operating procedures independently. Troubleshooting, repairs, and installation of basic irrigation systems will also be part of their duties. The role may require the technician to perform certain tasks outside normal working hours, such as irrigating crops and pest control, which will be compensated accordingly. Overall, this position is crucial for maintaining the health and productivity of the greenhouse environment, ensuring that all operations align with QHSE standards.

Responsibilities

• Obtain a pesticide private applicator license and spray pesticide with a respirator.

• Assist with monitoring growing conditions such as fertigation, lighting, pests, and other environmental factors.

• Responsible for operational work in the greenhouses and hardening houses to grow successful and healthy plants.

• Use modern computer systems for irrigation, climate control, and general operations.

• Carry out basic steps of standard operating procedures independently.

• Conduct troubleshooting, repairs, and installation of basic irrigation systems, including replacing PVC and metal pipes and fixing solenoids.

• Perform tasks outside normal working hours, such as irrigating crops, pest control, and monitoring security systems.

Requirements
• At least one year of experience maintaining a greenhouse or working as a maintenance/construction technician troubleshooting equipment.
