Job Description

NEOGOV is hiring a Geologist/Hydrologist I in South Carolina to oversee site rehabilitation activities, review technical plans, and manage records for petroleum releases. Responsibilities include providing technical assistance, reviewing reports, and supporting program management. Candidates should have a relevant bachelor's degree and experience in geologic or hydrologic investigations. The position allows for remote work 2 days a week after one year of employment.
NEOGOV is committed to protecting the environment in South Carolina, and they are seeking a Geologist/Hydrologist I to provide technical review and regulatory oversight for site rehabilitation activities. The role involves reviewing technical plans, managing records for petroleum releases, and providing support to program management.


Responsibilities

Using Risk-Based Corrective Action criteria and established Standard Operating Procedures, reviews and approves technical plans in accordance with established program goals, reviews technical reports and provides accurate and technically complete reviews to customers and ensures that releases are assessed in a timely manner for initiation of corrective action remediation or no further action decisions for regulated Petroleum ReleasesRecords management for all assigned regulated Petroleum releases, to include updates and maintenance of the E-Permitting database and maintenance of project files in accordance with established retention policyReview and approve cost estimates and invoiced costs for hydrogeological work that qualifies for State fund monies. Related reports are checked for accuracy before payment is authorizedProvides technical assistance and information to coworkers, the public, public officials, industries, and consultants. Participates in the peer review process to ensure consistency in the application of program policiesProvides support to program management as neededPerforms other duties as required and assists management staff with special duties as assigned
Skills

A bachelor's degree in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology or geological engineeringAbility to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid S.C. Driver's LicenseAbility to communicate effectively verbally and in writingExperience in conducting geologic or hydrologic investigationsExperience in groundwater protection regulations and policiesA good working knowledge of basic geochemistry and groundwater modeling programsMust have good working knowledge of the groundwater resources of the state of South CarolinaExperience with computer tasks (data management, word processing)Daily travel throughout the state may be requiredOccasional out-of-state and overnight travel may be requiredGeologist in Training Certification (GIT) or Professional Geologist License (PG)
