Position Summary - Planning & Communications Specialist II

McCormick Taylor's Pittsburgh office is seeking a highly motivated self-starter with a penchant for delivering quality work products as a Planning & Communications Specialist II in our Planning and Communications Department. The ideal candidate will support projects through all phases of the planning and development process, including data collection and analysis, goals and objectives development, public and stakeholder engagement, communications, recommendations development, implementation, and deliverables preparation. The successful candidate will work on public engagement and/or communications, comprehensive plans, multimodal and transit plans, integrated transportation and land use plans, corridor studies, long-range plans, and alternatives analysis.

Support Project/Task Managers with knowledge of communications and public engagement best practices; NEPA as it pertains to planning and public engagement practices and applications; the transportation project development process; comprehensive plans; multimodal and transit plans; integrated transportation and land use plans; corridor studies; long range plans; and alternatives analysis Serve as Task Leader for activities including field work (site visits, community meetings, etc.) and agency/client coordination Develop effective communications and meeting plans for assigned projects and summarize results Research and write content for project websites, social media programs, infographics, blogs, and newsletters and other communications collaterals Acquire and maintain a detailed knowledge of transportation, planning, and communications industry activities, and keep up to date with relevant policies, legislation, and regulations Possess a detailed knowledge and understanding of leading-edge planning and communication practices and technologies Collaborate with key planning and communications staff to brainstorm and develop creative content Collaborate with staff in other disciplines to ensure the timely completion of project delivery and technical support Collect, compile, and assist in analyzing data from surveys, geographic information systems (GIS), and related databases. Provide peer reviews of content and collateral in support of the QA/QC process Assist with the delivery of quality projects in accordance with accepted schedule and budget Organize, plan and attend meetings and events with officials, stakeholders, and the public Develop relationships with clients and industry partners Qualifications 3-5 years of experience Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Communications, Environmental Studies, Urban Studies, Geography, Public Policy, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or related field required, Master's Degree preferred Interest in obtaining AICP, NJPP, ENV SP, or similar certification Basic understanding of municipal and regional governmental structures and planning principles Willingness to learn and possess a strong interest in community engagement and transportation planning Understanding of data collection, analysis, and visualization techniques Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint) Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and interactive mapping tools (i.e., ESRI ArcGIS) a plus Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on quality Demonstrated experience in journalistic and technical writing Organized team player able to multitask efficiently under tight deadlines Fluency in an additional language, such as Spanish, is a plus
