Job Description
The State of Kentucky is hiring an Environmental Scientist III to work within the Kentucky Energy & Environment Cabinet. This role involves providing technical assistance for drinking water monitoring compliance, preparing reports, and training. Candidates should have a relevant bachelor's degree and three years of experience in environmental sciences or related fields. This federally funded position is remote and aims to enhance environmental quality for Kentuckians.

By joining the Compliance Section of the Drinking Water Branch in the Division of Water as an Environmental Scientist III in Franklin County, you will have the opportunity to work across agency and organizational lines, with the public and with the regulated community to provide technical assistance in the reporting, analysis, and management of drinking water monitoring data for compliance with Federal and State drinking water regulations. This is a federally funded time-limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.
Responsibilities
• Provide technical support regarding the collection, analysis and management of compliance drinking water data and provide compliance assistance to the regulated community.

• Prepare technical reports and determine compliance with federal drinking water regulations.

• Prepare training materials, presentations, and guidance documents.
,
• Provide training to the regulated community and agency staff.
,
• Coordinate and collaborate with other agencies or branches on technical studies, development of data management tools, and data sharing processes.
Requirements
• Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in a natural, biological or physical science OR Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 20 semester hours in a natural, biological or physical science.

• Three years of experience in natural resources, environmental control, or a related area.

• Graduate study in a natural, biological, or physical science will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

• Experience in natural resources, environmental control, engineering, or a related area will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Nice-to-haves
• Skills in environmental data analysis and data management.

• Experience with environmental regulations, monitoring and/or compliance.
,
• Proficient skills with MS Office suite.
,
• Experience working with ArcGIS Pro or similar GIS software products.
,
• Excellent problem solving, organizational, and communication skills.
