Job Description

Sabert Corporation is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist for its Chicago, IL site. The role involves developing and implementing EHS policies, conducting risk assessments, leading incident investigations, and promoting a zero-injury culture. Candidates should have a relevant degree and at least two years of safety experience, preferably in manufacturing. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential. The position requires on-site presence.
Brief Description

BASIC FUNCTION

The EHS Specialist will provide Environment, Health, and Safety support for the Sabert Chicago site by developing and/or assisting in the development, implementation, and auditing of environmental, health and safety policies and procedures, to promote a zero-injury culture.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Provide support to the site’s Environmental Health and Safety program to drive proactive EHS programs and risk mitigation.Engage and work with employees, supervisors, and department managers, to maintain and continuously improve Sabert’s Environmental Health and Safety program.Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially at-risk conditions, processes, or materials.Lead or participate in thorough investigations for all incidents and accidents on site and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.

Lead the team in developing effective root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Lead and/or assist in the implementation of safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Sabert policies as well as all local, state, and federal regulations and requirements. Perform Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) and PPE Hazard Assessments. Partner with the EHS Manager to review, update, and develop written programs, policies, and procedures for safety adherence. Work on emergency preparedness planning and assist in conducting annual emergency evacuation drills. Under the mentorship of the EHS Manager and site leadership, the individual will work closely with cross-functional teams to promote and foster a strong EHS culture. Conduct weekly Safety Assessments. Participate in incident investigations and work with team members to implement corrective and preventative actions. Enter safety work orders. Update visual safety boards. Assist the EHS Manager with providing training and coaching. Attend Safety Champion monthly meetings with the EHS Manager. Help organize safety celebrations. Conduct monthly inspections of eyewash stations and first aid cabinets. Assist in the tracking of key performance indicators and deliverables to provide direction and support to the site. Support the EHS Manager with additional duties as required.

Work in accordance with all company policies and procedures regarding employment, safety, quality, product safety and legality, security, and regulatory compliance as applicable.

Qualifications

Preferred BS or BA degree in safety engineering, environmental or industrial hygiene or comparable field; or the equivalent knowledge and experience.

Two plus years of safety and health experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

Knowledge of federal and local EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and CDC.Ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards. Excellent communication, facilitation, ownership, and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and an integrated team working style. Excellent written and formal presentation skills. A self-starter with high energy and a passion for results. Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications.
