The Auburn University Risk Management and Safety Division is hiring an Environmental Safety & Health Specialist to provide professional expertise in the operation of Auburn University environmental, safety and health programs to help ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, national consensus standards and the Auburn University Safety Policy. Areas of specialization: This job may specify responsibilities pertaining to professional competencies necessary for a more focused position specialization.
These specializations are in the following areas: 1. Regulated Waste Management. 2. Hazardous Materials. 3. Dangerous Goods Shipping. 4. Emergency Response and Spill Mitigation.

Essential Functions
• Develops and manages regulated waste management programs to include implementing safe, compliant hazardous materials and regulated waste operations and shipment of Dangerous Goods.
• Supervise EHS personnel performing regulated waste management activities.
• Provides technical guidance to the University community in relation to regulated waste to include RCRA hazardous waste, universal waste, regulated medical waste and pathological waste.
• Develops and manages waste management programs to prevent and correct non-compliance conditions.
• Designs, conducts and coordinates training and education in area of specialization.
• Conducts inspections and evaluations, and recommends control measures.
• Recommends actions and solutions for resolving/preventing violations.
• Will participate with others to support hazmat spill emergency response.
