The City of Fremont is seeking an Environmental Assistant to support sustainability, stormwater, and solid waste programs. Responsibilities include field assessments, data analysis, public outreach, and administrative tasks. The Environmental Assistant is a technical position that is responsible for assisting with a wide variety of projects and tasks in the sustainability, stormwater, and solid waste program areas within the Environmental Services Division. Assignments may include field work, data analysis, special events, public outreach, reporting and administrative tasks. May work independently or in a team environment depending on project requirements.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Assist with conducting field assessments, research, and reports for stormwater permit and/or solid waste regulatory complianceAssist with conducting research and data analysis of rates and fees for building electricity service and electric vehicle chargingAssist with public outreach and communications including social media and newslettersMonitor solar system generation in online portals and gather building energy data for regular reportingSupport City implementation of recycling and compost/organics services at businesses and multi-family complexesParticipate in special events including planning, preparation, and logistics supportSet up and maintain spreadsheets, project files or computer databases as required
Perform other duties as assignedSUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is provided by the Environmental Services Administrator

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 18 years of age Relevant technical skill, or related education or experience Ability to establish and maintain productive relations and positive attitude toward othersStrong written and verbal skills Organizational skills, flexibility and ability to work both alone or as a team member Ability to lift and maneuver at least 30 poundsWork in an outdoor environment with wet conditions and extreme heatWork in direct sunlight
REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

California driver licenseFingerprinting and TB test are requiredMust be able to effectively handle sensitive and or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion, and confidentiality.Must effectively communicate with adults and children from a variety of cultural backgroundsWillingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, & AED from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire date or prior to the first day of work, whichever occurs earlier.Verification of legal right to work in the United States as a condition of employment SELECTION PROCESS

Qualified applications will be evaluated on the basis of related experience and quality of presentation. The most highly qualified applicants will be invited to an oral interview. Applicant evaluations may include a written and physical test. Satisfactory candidates will be placed on an eligibility list. Placements are anticipated immediately after the list is established.
