Lee Enterprises is seeking a full-time Energy and Environment Reporter for the Bismarck Tribune in Bismarck, ND. The reporter will cover significant energy stories in North Dakota, including oil, coal, wind energy, and carbon capture projects. The Bismarck Tribune, the newspaper in the capital city of North Dakota, has an exciting job opportunity for a full-time energy and environment reporter.

The state has a unique mix of energy, and many North Dakota energy stories attract national attention, such as the Dakota Access Pipeline protests, energy development near Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the proposed Summit Carbon Solutions regional carbon dioxide pipeline.

The successful candidate will cover developments in the Bakken oil fields; coal, with North Dakota home to the single-largest deposit of lignite in the world; and wind energy, in which North Dakota is a leading state. State leaders have embraced carbon capture and sequestration technology, with projects in the works to capture emissions from industrial facilities and bury them deep underground. The state has a burgeoning biofuels industry, rare earths/critical minerals development is on the horizon, and cryptocurrency data centers are being planned or developed across the state.

The position is based in Bismarck, the state’s second-largest city. Bismarck and neighboring Mandan are along the Missouri River with miles of trails for outdoor recreation along with a growing food and culture scene. The region also offers prime hunting and fishing opportunities and is an easy drive to a national park. Bismarck-Mandan is a fun place to live and work with the amenities of a big city without the traffic and high cost of living.
